Bordeaux Pens--Opinions?

I was shopping some used MBs the other day and the salesperson spoke of how rare the bordeaux ones were getting. I've never really fancied them, myself. I like black. Always have. It's classic. But, I also have pens in every color, and don't care how other folks perceive the pens I like. So, how many of you prefer bordeaux? If you found a bargain, would you buy it, simply because the color was discontinued?

I really like the bordeaux pens. I think they are beautiful. I have bought a few of them and would undoubtedly buy more if I came across them, especially if they were a good price.

Black every time in the Meisterstucks, for me.

Had a bordeaux 144, back in the day. It never worked for me as a colour, although some of the 147's seem to pull it off nicely.

Each to their own.

Enjoy

I definitely love the Bordeaux pens over the black ones. I wish I had a Bordeaux 149! :D surprisingly, the ones I've purchased have been relatively inexpensive. There were both classiques for under $200 USD. But some of the Legrand models are much more expensive. Just be advised if you need service due to a broken part, it most likely will not be replaced because those parts are no longer made.

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

A minor point of clarification with your final statement. The parts are still made. I was once of the same belief until I asked and was assured there would always be Bordeaux parts for repairs. Earlier this year I sent two ballpoints in for repairs and both came back as new pens.

True. 5 months ago I sent my Bordeaux 1462 to replace its damaged piston, and it returned with new barrel and piston knob.

I have a few 144Rs. I like the soft beauty of these pens. The black ones are OK, but I am not keen on black pens.

I think they are nice, but I have not bought one and probably will not go out of my way to buy one unless there is some 149 size I have not seen.

They are not rare but mint examples are getting harder to find over the years.

The Bordeaux are nice and I have several. My "way out there" dream is to collect all of the Bordeaux MBs (Excluding LEs), but that is just a pipe dream.

Oh well that is good to hear then! Maybe it just depends what part of the world you are in. Other members here have shared their experiences of not getting replaced parts. One pen was up for sale in the classifieds and it had a barrel crack repaired by MB because they weren't able to replace the part. I think it was a Bordeaux 146 if I remember correctly.

I've always found burgundy pens to be very elegant looking, and Montblanc really did a great job with it's Bordeaux pens. I can't get enough of my Bordeaux 146R. The Montblanc Bordeaux is really a burgandy red that comes alive under good lighting like sunlight. I love to run Montblanc Burgandy Red ink in my 146R.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
