Hi All,

I just won a Chinse eBay auction of a LA EXECUTIVE GLOSS BLACK FINE NIB FOUNTAIN PEN RESIN BARREL METAL CLIP

this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LA-EXECUTIVE-GLOSS-BLACK-FINE-NIB-FOUNTAIN-PEN-RESIN-BARREL-METAL-CLIP-/400802939984

Paid $4.25 + $1.78 shipping. It should arrive in about 4 weeks and then I know if it really is a Lamy Safari including a converter :D

Cheers,

Cees | NL

You'll probabaly find when you get it it will be a Hero which isn't a horrible thing but it is a bait and switch they go for around 5-10 dollars.

The price is right, but I am not sure it was made by Hero - their Lamy Safari look-alike at least has their name on it instead of Lamy's. This seems like a much more blatant rip off - if "La Executive" is not affiliated with Lamy, they have stolen the design of both the pen and the packaging and then had the gall to slap Lamy's name on both. If this isn't a Lamy - which seems likely, given the price and, sadly, location of the seller - I hope Lamy takes note of this one, though trying to get Chinese companies (or laws) to adhere to international standards of intellectual property rights is quite the struggle (impossible?), from what little I know of it!

Let us know what you really have, Cees - if you can figure it out - when you get your new pen. Curious minds want to know! :P

I'm betting all the pics are legit Lamys. I just don't expect the item you receive to match the pics. This is a common tactic (real pics, but dubious verbiage for the description) from sellers in that region...

Deceptive practice indeed, but that does sound like a good theory. If so, I would think this needs to be brought to eBay's attention - a seller's photos not having anything to do with the actual product received would seem to be a violation of eBay rules/policies...isn't it?

Let's hope instead that Cees gets an astonishingly good deal on a legitimate Lamy Safari! :D

Yes, it would certainly violate the terms and conditions of the site.

I won this one, http://goo.gl/NgqK1s

If it shows up and isn't a LAMY as pictured, I'll file a complaint through PayPal and return the POS.

Depending on where it's from, that might cost you more than just keeping it. Edited by sirgilbert357

That's a possibility, I'm not sure how PayPal buyer protection works. The auction was free shipping. If nothing else it will get reported as a fraudulent auction. I'm not to worried about the $10.50.

Well guess what .... the pen just arrived by registered mail (!!) and it is the real thing.

Not a bad deal at $6 for a Safari including a genuine Lamy converter :D

Wow - 44 minutes after you posted confirmation, and the seller's other similar item has already been bid up above $20.

I admit that I am surprised, but that is a bit of a sumgai deal for a genuine Safari. Well done, ceac!

Holly

Seriously. I am very surprised. Makes me wonder how the seller is getting them or making any profit off them. Course since the other bids will go higher now, profit shouldnt be a problem. Edited by sirgilbert357

The OP Does Know that there Are FAKE Lamy Safaris Marked Lamy from China, right? (There are threads here about them, usually more desired SE Safaris but if they can make a fake SE they can surely make a fake plain Black one.)

I'd compare that pen Very Closely to a KNOWN Lamy Safari...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
