Ordered Safari, left Velvet Blue till after Xmas and tempted by Regency Blue, but not sure how different it is from other the darker blues.

This is not the most thorough test (and comes with apologies for the handwriting), but here's a small sample of the five inks I chose earlier in the week, and a comparison against what else I've got inked up at the moment.

My favourite at the moment is probably Regency Blue - great flow/lubrication and a very deep saturated look with a hint of sheen. Also rather keen on Silver Fox, which looks just like HB pencil (sorry, don't have Diamine graphite to compare). [All these pens are fairly wet writers which might explain some of the difference in colour to the OPs scans. Paper is lined Rhodia.]

Cheers, Schticy

I received the Safari ink today. I put it into my Parker IM and the ink flows very well - this pen does not like dry inks at all - no false starts with this ink.

There is a great variety in the shading. With a heavy hand (or a wet pen) the ink comes out as a dark green -- with a lighter hand it comes out with a light shade of green. It's a bit like grass that has been watered, or grass that has been not seen rain for a while. Quite a range.

This is an ink I'm going to have a lot of fun with. (Did I really say that? - Nurse the screens!).

Don't hide the wallet get it out . . .!

(Mind you, it's probably still cowering in a corner somewhere after the M1000 experience) :)

Managed to get out of bed, suffering with man flu for the third day now and load Terracotta into my Vac 700 and the Blue Velvet into my 540.

Might not be what you think. Dr. Napalm suggests further investigation:

I'm interested in everything except Silver Fox, and Carnival. Diamine is one of my favourite ink producers.

Thank you for the pictures Stichy.

I had a small win on the lottery last night, and decided to go for Regency Blue instead of the Velvet Blue. The Velvet looks similar to a blue I already have, so I'll finish that one first. That Regency Blue looks nice.

Really enjoying these new inks - here's a few more close-ups showing shading and a little sheen. [All share the same paper/pen as previous pictures.]

Enjoy!

Blue velvet - great flow on this one and definitely showing the potential for sheen:

Regency blue – love this one, really jumps off the page:

Safari – fantastic shading, everything from the deepest jungle chlorophyll through to lightest savannah green:

Terracotta – more beautiful shading, and an unusual burnt sienna type colour:

Haha! Yes, kinda...

But I think a (few) bottle(s) of ink(s) might not hurt :P

Thank you so much for the samples!!!

I don't really need that shade of blue, but Blue Velvet looks so nice!

Safari and Terracotta are still in the lead though!

I'm wondering how close it is to good old Noodler's Blue ?

Now that I've been bitten by the "blue bug" anyone out there care to scratch my itch so to speak ?

Just looked up a few reviews here and elsewhere. Seems veeerry similar . . . Good Captain. any chance of a side by side ?

(Not that it makes any difference, Noodler's Blue in the UK is a non starter  )

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
