Inky T O D - What Ink Do You Hope Someone Gives You?

amberleadavis

Recommended Posts

Now, not everyone celebrates Christmas. Growing up in Las Vegas, I thought Elvis was the bringer of special presents.

So, if you have a stocking, or have someone that buys you presents to get you out of your stockings, or buys you presents to get you to wash your stockings, or even have someone stalking you... oh wait that's different....

What bottle of ink would you like to have magically appear?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

1. The Herbin Hematite, version 1 or 3 (with the gold). I have 2 bottles of ver. 2 and can chuck both.

2. FPH's Banknote Green. Aready said this so often but nobody wants to get rid of it.

The more red (edit: or better behaved) of Diamine Poppy Red or Wild Strawberry (a tough call, I know). I have no reds. There are three inks I might use for markup, but none would be so eye-catching as either of these reds.

And Diamine Grape. I have Waterman Violet /Tender Purple, but I don't think it's necessarily dark enough for writing.

Both those reds are awesome. I love grape, but be warned, it stains.

MB Racing Green

J. Herbin Rouge Hematite

J. Herbin Stormy Grey

One of those is really tough to find...the other is just tough to find right now.

BTW, have you tried MB Daniel Defoe? It isn't Racing Green, but it is really a great ink and it's murky green.

J. Herbin Rouge Hematite.

Because I would never buy a bottle of this - I already have found my perfect reds. Still it would be a fun ink.

Greetings,

Michael

I don't know if I am going to get any ink from anyone! Maybe some Kobe or Iro? That would be nice. I'd love to get Sailor Bung Box Sweet Potato Purple, most of all.

That one does look awfully fun. Maybe next year I'll try and get some.

If the bottle HAS to be ink, right now Bay State Blue (but I'd rather it be Jim Beam Brown)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
