I'll try to get a pic up later, but of the ones I am keeping, it's my Dollar Pen 9461. It's "this close" to my Parker 51 for feel and writing.

I've had lots of them, but now only have three, which I love -- a beautiful grey Transitional J, a Copper Dollar, and a black Bandless Dollar. They use a variety of wet nibs, depending on my mood and chosen ink. I also have a Wality eyedropper in the office with the 9668 Escalade nib, if that counts.

Mine is an LJ or a desk pen.

Both are slim pens that fit my hand.

I tried writing with a J, it just felt too fat.

I really dig these two:

I work for the Bell System so this one is pretty cool to me:

This J with a 9788 flex nib writes awesome!

Your handwriting is a work of art. Had to go back & look again to see what the pens looked like. :yikes:

I especially love the bird flourishes! o.O

I think you have inspired me to work on my flourishes!

This one is tough since I have kind of a lot of Esterbrooks, but after giving it some thought, I think my white CA101 is my favorite.

It is fairly uncommon, and is so stark and clean looking:

The blue icicle I got from dcpritch with either a 2284 or 2314-F nib. The pen is a gorgeous shade of violet blue.

Close second is a deep red J from gweimer.

Wow! That is a huge collection! So which is your favourite nib? I'm assuming you've had the opportunity to try most of them? Edited by Hallel

I am pretty much exclusively a stub and CI guy in all my user pens, so I tend toward those in my Esterbrooks as well. The Relief Esterbrooks I collect make that easy. For others, I just swap in something like a 9314-M.

WOW!   :puddle: :puddle: :puddle:

Thanks. That picture is a few years old. I don't have too many more Esterbrooks than that today, but probably 10-15% more.

I haven't seen that wonderful picture in awhile, love it every time I see it. Which Esterbrook is NOT in there?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
