I checked that Coffee on an Al Star. Fleabay must be listening. Going for around $100. I like the Blue-green too.

Aquamarine. 1.5 italic for fun.

Then, the charcoal with EF for actual writing.

I found a Ruby Al-Star yesterday for the original price. Nabbed it immediately.

I also bought the Neon Coral Safari and the Blue-Green Al-Star for my cousins. LOVE the colours. I wish I had gotten one for myself, too, and now I am on the hunt.

I have a Graphite and a Ocean Blue AL-Star, and a Matte Black Safari and I like them all.

Someday like to find a Forest Green Metallic AL-Star to add to the mix.

I currently have inked a neon yellow filled with Diamine Ultra Green, and just filled this year's blue-green al-Star with Akkerman # 26 Groenmarkt Smaragt. Then there's the matt (now semi-matt from handling) black al-Star with a a Lamy black cartridge in it, and of course the silver al-Star with a Lamy blue cartridge.

Which is my favourite? Which day of the week is it?

Coffee for the Al-Star and Apple Green for the Safari.

I was lucky to find the Coffee color in 2012 when the Ruby Red came out. I got it at amazon.co.uk. Then I got the Ruby Red because it looked so pretty. It is too. But I immediately thought the Coffee color when I saw the title of this thread.

In descending order of favorites: Charcoal Safari, Purple Al-Star, Ocean Blue Al-Star, Ruby Al-Star. I only own the Safari... but I have two Charcoal ones. The black nibs are a beautiful touch; I'd put them on any of the Lamys and be happy.

I'm loving the neon yellow special edition... But I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet because I'm trying to avoid a "collect them all" mentality around my Safaris. That way lies madness!

I am currently using my neon yellow safari. I love it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
