Bb Nibs

Recommended Posts

I'm toying with the idea of buying a couple of blanks from a vendor (ebonite, resin or acrylic) and try to get someone to turn a couple of custom pens for me. While I look for someone who can do that, can anyone help me with a source for #6 BB nibs (preferably online) and feeds to go with them? I wrote Bock recently but they said that they don't do sales for values under EUR 1.5k...

If BB aren't generally available - and I believe that they aren't - even B will do.

Thanks in advance

Edison does not seem to have double broads (but I believe that they are made by Bock at least); you could ask him if he can get them... Customization would also be an option in order to make a nib broader.

First of all you would have to decide how much they should cost - are we talking gold nibs or steel nibs?

I would have a word with Jonathon Brooks of this forum and see if he can help with both the pen and the nib.

No affiliation - just a very satisfied customer. :)

Oh, steel nibs only; can't afford gold. Btw, would you know where I can find blanks for plain acrylic for demonstrator FPs? The sites I've seen only have multi- and single-colored varieties but not transparent blocks for demonstrators...

Demonstrators can be a little tricky to make, I believe, as any tiny error will show - which might be the reason why they are hard to find.

Amazon, TAPPlastics.com, and probably others have translucent colored acrylic rods for sale. Just Google"colored acrylic rods" and you'll find some.

Edison's nibs are made by Jowo...still a German company. Brian has another company MeisterNibs where he sells unmarked Jowo nibs: http://meisternibs.com/steel-nibs/. No BB nibs though.

Thank you for that Nick!

I can certainly help with all avenues for your project. I create custom pen material as well as make custom pens. I could make transparent blanks in all colors. Making a demonstrator is a bit more difficult just bc you have to really take as much care to the inside of the pen as the outside. Here are a couple samples of what I can do:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
