Karas Ink Clips?

Recommended Posts

I just received my Karas Ink in the mail today. As I was examining it I noticed a significant gap between the clip and the cap. If you saw it on another more conventional pen you might say it was sprung. But upon a second look at a review of a Karas Ink here, the pen being reviewed looks like it has the same condition. Has anyone else who has an Ink found this to be the case? If so I'd be interested how you feel about it. By the way, I have not yet contacted Karas, and this is not a gripe either. I'm just not too sure that I will be able to wear it in a shirt pocket in fear that I'll lose the darn thing. From my communications with Karas to this point I'm real comfortable it will be resolved to my satisfaction.bib

I have 2 Karas pens, but not the ink yet. Both clips have some clearance. However, this is not an issue for me.

My Ink and everyone I've seen has some clearance. My Bolt does not, but that is a totally different design.

I wonder if the clearance is there to keep the anodized caps from getting scratched?

I purchased one and contacted them. They confirmed that was normal. It was a non-starter for me, unfortunately, and I returned it to them.

The clips are hand polished and the polishers can get aggressive, causing the clips to wear at the "bump" where they approach the cap. The material used on the clip is a spring stainless steel and because it is cut from a thick sheet and not stamped from thinner material, it is rather stiff. We are looking at some slight changes to the design to prevent this from happening in the future. Some customers are using them in the pockets of jeans, so they want a larger gap. Others would like it to clip onto a dress shirt pocket and want it really tight. The clip is removable and it's sometimes possible to loosen the screws and tweak it a little, but if you are not comfortable doing so, that's fine too. Feel free to contact Karas Kustoms and give them your opinion. And, if you really just don't like the pen, you can always return it. It's most important that the customer is happy with their purchase and receives proper customer service.

Dear Design Concussion, I have my Ink in front of me. If I haven't said it before, I love the anodized aluminum.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Amber, I am glad you like your pen. That zoomed in view of the clip and body is intense on my monitor, kind of freaked me out a little. :D

Just received my Karas Kustoms Ink and really like it quite a bit. Like Amber's pen, my clip is quite tight and fits snugly in a shirt or pant pocket. I have the red pen with a brass section.

Sure hope I did this correctly.

I'm thinking of getting another KK Ink in green and copper. It's become my EDC. I got the B nib and it writes like a BBB. Great pen!

(I'd post a picture but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Sorry, guys.)

If you are on the computer go to the top of the page to the gallery and add pictures. Then you use the tree icon to paste in the link. If you have the link, you can even just post it here and I'll add the picture for you.

I LOVE my pen.... my teenager (the boy) calls it Mom's K-Kink.

Have just secured one of these (bronze section, black body, fine nib) on Massdrop. Should be shipping in the next few days - very excited to see what it looks like / feel how it writes!

You will love it!

So, the nib is a Schmidt (made by Jowo). I have matching nibs from another pen I acquired. I'll be sure to send pics and try out the different nibs. I can't wait for my pen to come back from visiting Art.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
