Is This Normal For A Lamy Vista Cap?

Recommended Posts

Just recently converted my lamy vista into an eyedropper with Noodler's X-feather. Writes beautifully!

But i noticed that there are some hairline scratches in the cap! Its not from outside but its from within the cap!

Is this normal? What could be causing this? There are numerous vertical scratches from within the cap in different locations.

If anyone has a vista, can you check yours and see if these vertical scratches exist?

Let me know!

I was going to say no marks here, but on closer examination there are indeed many faint vertical scratch marks. however they look like nothing more than abrasions from putting the cap on which you would not see on a coloured Safari cap..

I just pulled out my 2 Vistas to take a lookie. I held them up to the window so I can see through them better. Whadyaknow, there are scratches on both caps. I never noticed before. The barrels on both pens look cleaner with less scratches. I guess they're from uncapping and recapping the pen even though I try to be careful about that.

Glad to know. Mine has several vertical scratches, but mine is noticeable and opaque. I guess thats what you get for owning clear demonstrators.

I don't have a working camera at the moment. Phone is busted as well. I can upload for you later, when i take pictures.

I purchased a separate vista rollerball barrel from bureaudirect. I sealed the air vent at the end of the barrel with an epoxy adhesive. Doesn't leak!

Haha, i thought it was a manufacturing defect. But well, got to live with it. Hope you don't develop a OCD with regards to it! I surely have.

I think what you get with the vistas is softer plastic. I'm not saying its bad, I own 30-40 lamys. I just dont think you can avoid the scratches in the softer plastic of a Lamy as apposed to something like a visconti Crystal Operamaster or even a twsbi

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
