Massdrop Doin' It Again With The Lamy 2000 (Makrolon)

Just spotted on Massdrop, another listing of the Lamy 2000 (makrolon version), only needs 5 more buy-ins to reach the maximum discount price of $104.99. I don't remember whether they had the full range of options last time, but it's EF, F, M or B this time around. I don't think I could justify buying a second (and paid more than this for my first, sadly!)... But if ever you've been tempted, then turned off by the price tag ($145-160 in online retail stores), this is a real steal! (The price, not the nib - it's real rhodium-coated gold, I think... if you'll pardon the pun.)

Thanks. Soooo tempting. I have an M and EF. Was thinking about getting a B to grind to a stub. But had my eye on a Sailor too ..... too many pens, too little pen budget.

Platinum coated 14k gold I believe, but that's a great price!

I believe you're right - my bad! But as you say, it's a great price - and for mine, a really classy pen.

I was in on the last one, which was $110. No complaints about massdrop and the pen is fantastic. I was happy to pay $110 and this is another $5 off. If you've ever considered a Lamy 2k, this deal is about as good as it gets for a new one.

Mine arrived today. The pack and ship was great. The pen is awesome. The Makrolon on mine looks oddly brown in a few places. Not terrible and will probably wear down and even out. I inked an hour ago. I am in pen heaven. What a freaking great pen. So much to love about it. Piston filler you can take apart and clean with a massive capacity. Personally a big fan of small imbedded and covered nibs. The nib and flow on mine looks excellent so far. Rugged, comfortable, great writer with a cool design largely unchanged from the 1960s. You can't get a brand new Parker '51 but you can get a new Lamy 2000. That aint nothing to sneeze at. So happy to have one of these again. One of my all time favorite pens (Still like the Lamy 27 a little better but ... )

Oh no, this is wayyy too tempting. Retail is $220 in Canada!

$220 is cheap compared to Korea. If i told you would honestly would not believe me.

The price just went up over $300 though some online dealers still have it for Bargain Canada prices ($200-ish) but my pen guy told me Lamy's new prices in Korea and I almost fell over.

So yeah. THANK YOU FPN & MASSDROP.

I'd been wanting a Lamy 2000 for one of those "carry always" pens and this price was way too good to pass up. Thanks...I think though my pen budget is stretched to the max for this year.

I picked up a Broad on the last Massdrop. It has arrived and is a perfect L2k. The broad is very broad, and I may have a nibmeister make it a stub. Plenty of tipping for them to work with.

It's nicely smooth and a great writer now, it's just HUGE.

How can they get away with that in this day and age. Do you have to pay prohibitive import tariffs if you just order one from any of the global online retailers?

And on the original note ... I need to stay away from this forum of FPN.

(meh, who I am I kidding. Probably in for a Broad)

Just as bad in Australia. L2K is ~300 AUD which at one point was 330 USD. Now it is ~275 USD. Just the way it is I guess.

L2k is 4800 baht here in Bangkok. That's about $160aud. I had my eye on a medium oblique, but my daughter's birthday is more important than mine. Have to wait for father's day.

Please call me Nathan. It is a pleasure to meet you.

$320 here in Korea.

So yeah.

Bonkers. So I got in on the first drop and am very happy I did. A fair price for an absolutely fantastic pen. it's been a very long time since I was this instantly happy about a brand new from the factory pen. Exceeding all expectations.

Having used one I thought I had a good idea of what this pen was like. But no.

It is a better pen than I realized. I was never that keen on the styling (too self consciously modernist) but a funny thing happens when a pen writes well, feels good in the hand, is machined and manufactured well (sturdy as all get out) and has a massive ink capacity and is easy to clean: You learn to love how it looks.

Has anyone had any experience of buying with Massdrop from outside the US? Just wondering how much things like customs charges and import tax would be on the 2K in the UK.

I also have a question about Massdrop ordering. After I ordered an open drop for a pen, the order (paid w cc) says "Pending" for days. Is it waiting for shipping? Not going to be fulfilled? Has to wait for drop to end? Their FAQ's are minimal and that is being charitable.

I bought 1 from last drop. I wanted B but only had M left and then I had to pay £26 customs charges. I will receive tomorrow. This was an impulse buy so I hope I like it.

I bought on the last drop here in Korea. No problems since our limit is about $150 inclusive of shipping and this was just under that so no import tax. If it had been higher I would have been zapped. Additionally, excellent pack and ship and the pen got here in great shape. Inked up and using it right out of the box.

Thanks to you both. I'll leave it then, I'd rather buy one that is second hand and slightly less (being a student I am rather tight :P ), as £26 extra takes it a bit above my price range.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
