How To Deny A Person From Using Your Pen?

Now one person want to use my Justus95....... after them seeing my "fancy cursive." I tried to send that person off to use my FPR flex pen but still that one wants to use my Justus95. How do I say no without making myself look like some snobby person. From what I've seen that one person writes with a near death grip with super hard pressure. If I say something like "This pen is 312 USD so It don't trust people nor my parents to use it." They might question me saying "you don't trust us? You don't trust your friends?"

#Nope

It's not about trust, as even experienced people with fountain pens can still drop a pen nib first. Tell that you don't want to put them in the possible position of paying for your broken pen.

Mine is always 'Sorry, the tines are set to my hand' or just a plain 'I think not'

Usually when someone reaches for one of my pens I just taser them into unconsciousness and then drag the body out onto the sidewalk.

Simple solution, works for me.

simply explain this.

Fountain pens over time adjust to the users writing style and form and having another use the pen even for a little bit would throw all the time it took to adjust out the window.

Its partially true :) giving this explanation always works for me.

A simple "Sorry, I don't lend my pens", should suffice - and … have a DOLLAR pen from Taiwan ready and offer that one instead. Not good enough for him? Back to the default answer.

Sorry, but "No."

The response is Sorry but "no" from me too.

I could cope with being thought of as snobby, but my pen remains intact and undamaged

Before I had the taser I used to apply a forearm smash followed by a swift elbow drop, and then dragged the unconscious body out onto sidewalk. The taser has allowed me to streamline my approach and reduce unnecessary physical expenditure on my part.

I don't really see any need to faff about with complicated explanations and reasons and stuff.

YMMV of course, but I am sure Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson takes the same line when someone attempts to borrow one of his fountain pens.

We have a saying here in Germany: you don't lend out things with F.

Fahrzeug (vehicle) - comes back used and dirty

Füller (fountain pen) - comes back used and dirty

Frau (wife) - ... you get it

Finanzen (finances) - don't come back at all

Greetings,

Michael

The rudeness of someone insisting you allow them to use your pen. Do they also attempt to drink from your beverages? Never could stomach someone invading my space.

Best of luck,

Yours,

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I usually have at least one cheaper pen on me, so if someone wants to borrow a more expensive pen, I just tell them "no, this one is kind of special. You can try this other fountain pen, though!"

I guess this particular person is really intent on using your Justus, though...

By using the saying you mentioned "This pen is 312 USD so It don't trust people nor my parents to use it." you would only confirm a belief, when it's not the case, that you are a snob. Particularly the part about your not trusting your parents. Either don't carry it around those people or just say no.

"Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?" Patrick Henry

1 - Learn to say NO !!!

2 - Or better yet, simply do not carry that pen with you when that person would be around, or don't carry it with you at all. By you carrying that pen, you are advertising the pen. If you don't want them to ask for it, do not carry it. Out of sight, out of mind.

3 - And yes, you do NOT trust your friends. Tell them to give you $400 CASH damage deposit first. They can trust you with their $400 while they use your pen. And if they damage the pen, they bought it from you. If you don't want to do this then do #1 or #2, better to do #2 and not have to deal with it any more.

This gets back to my office/school pen concept.

Keep your EXPENSIVE/SPECIAL pens at home and safe, and only bring out the pens that are "expendable."

Cuz what would you do if that person GRABS your pen and start writing and mashes the nib, then what ???

"Oooop, sorry" will not pay for the nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
