Some irresponsible sellers pull that to trick people. Some people dont even look at the shipping. So i can sell my 100 pen for 1 dollar and 150 in shipping and someone will think they got a deal. until the bill comes.

Shows AU $1,650.00 here. This guy's other items show reasonable postage, must have slipped an extra couple of zeros in by mistake.

when i look it's AU $1,650.00. But it's likely an error since their other pen auctions ship @ 15.50. they prob entered 1650 without decimal point and ebay did the rest.

I've seen a couple listing here in the USA that have outlandish shipping fees, like $20 for 5 pens. I think this is someone's way of getting around eBay fees, since shipping charges don't count. Sell an item low, charge high shipping, and realize more profit.

I thought fleabay had done away with shipping spiking a long time ago for a multitude of reasons. Obviously they miss out on fees and it also gives an unfair advantage of a lower priced item. Also, it makes many customers mad after they think they've found a deal.

I remember in college, back when ebay was the only real game in town, a friend put some travel voucher worth hundreds of dollars on sale for like $50 (or whatever to be in a good price bracket). Shipping for a few pieces of paper was an astounding $300. He thought himself very smug.

Typos aside, this seller's grip on financial reality can be skewed at times.

Interesting aside, the nib is stamped 'CHINA 22KGP' instead of the usual IPG.

Knowing Australian postal charges, $16.50 (if that's what was intended) is a very good international rate, the pen price on the other hand......

They have. They now charge their final value fee on the total price including shipping

I'll go and inquire about the shipping price. Will see what happens..

I'll just ask why the shipping is so high...

This is what I will type.

Greetings;

Why is the shipping charges so high ?

Thanks for your time.

Yes, I expect that eBay's approach is not to discourage sellers trying shipping spikes but rather a backhand way of cashing in on those sellers. After all, if a seller sells with a ridiciulous shipping charge then they are probably still benefiting even after eBay extracts its pound of flesh. Of course I cannot imagine that many people are willing to pay huge shipping charges in the first place. That is just my perspective though, I have no idea of how it applies to eBay globally.

It is interesting that 5 of 6 available items are sold. So, if it's not an error -- this guy has collected a cool bundle.

Enjoy,

Yours,

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I've come across the seller I think you're talking about. She(? I think it's a girl anyway) will put up a $15 pen with $20 shipping charges. All of her auctions are like that, and I skip over them every time.

Sometimes when I see a listing that the shipping is a little to high I would

use the shipping price as the amount I would pay for the pen and the sale of

the pen as the shipping charge. In other word, I add the total of the sale & shipping

not to exceed the max I would pay.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
