Faber Castell Ondoro And Similar Model Nib Swap

Hi guys,

Just a curious question, can JoWo nibs fit onto FC Ondoro and similar series feed?

I read somewhere that they use #5 JoWo nibs.

Any ideas?

no... the feed they use is similar to Schmidt nibs and feeds unless you got the same thing then you shouldnt have any problems... unless your talking to the collar level which I tried with TWSBI collars (number 4) they dont fit

I stand corrected the TWSBI number 4 feed will fit so is the nib but it's not a very "secured" friction fit IE the nib and feed will hold together but it may "spin" when you write with it

Ah, that's sad. Does that mean no swapping or maybe Bock/Schmidt might work?

I was figuring on swapping an Ondoro to a gold nib or just a round nib in case I get bored with a stub.

a boch nib doesnt hurt just remember the size of number 4 I don't think something bigger will fit unless you really switch the collar

Sorry for the ignorance, but what's a "collar"?

Is that the section threads or the place where the nib hooks on (similar to the 78G feed or something).

Like TWSBI you can unscrew the nib and feed unit in any of the Faber-Castell pens so in theory you can actually "hot-swap" nibs it will be a bit messy though, and the units there of are referred to as collars or nib collars

like the ones you see here

Ah, but how about at nib/feed level?

Like could I slide on a nib from JoWo/Bock onto the FC's feed, then pop it back onto the collar, then screw it back into the section? (I hope I got it right)

as I said on my second post the JoWo nib and feed will fit but it's not a "secured" fit at least using using the feed and nib that came on the TWSBI mini but I'm afraid any bigger (number 5 nib) the cap of the Ambition may not fit... a different case on the Ondoro I would say since that has a bigger cap

Ah my bad, I read it wrongly. I was thinking you fit a TWSBI nib/feed in O_O

Sure, thanks!

you can try the process is easily reversible anyway or at least with the right items again I wont guarantee about using the TWSBI 580 nib and feed

Just a last question, what is the diameter of the feed? From what you're saying, I'm guessing it is 4mm?

I had to take some caliper measurements but here's the breakdown

F-C feed 5.96mm (same with a Schmidt feed)

TWSBI feed 5.98mm

taken with the TWSBI mini feed and F-C ambition

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
