How Do I Know The Place Of Manufacture Of Sheaffer

Had posted sometime back about a Sheaffer I saw in a Abu Dhabi shop. The only Sheaffer I knew before the research on FPs I started this year were the ones that came with the embedded nib - like the current Legacy series. Searches and FPN replies to my previous thread said such Sheaffer are not made in the lower end ones now. All low ends ones come with normal nib but not this one available in Abu Dhabi.

This shop sells CT with Blue / Maroon / Black barrel. There is no country of origin on the nib or the pen. Only a mark M on the section to indicate the nib size. Has a converter included and a black faux leather case.

How do I know the model name and also the country of origin?

The show case was just near the door but turned inside so could not snap a picture. Looks like Legacy but with steel cap and nib. Body is plastic.

One guy was a bit upset when I told them that this model is no more in production. Was trying to grab a discount if they were NOS. Then I went into the store as if I was going to check something else and spoke to an Indian working there. He said it was new stock fresh delivered!! I saw the same three pens two weeks before - may be I saw new ones.

They have M nib so my interest is a bit less now as I find Parker M and Pilot Elite M to be too broad for me. Is Sheaffer M the same width as Parker Vector / 45 M?

Yeah looks like Imperial Triumph. Getting a brand new one with box and plastic sleeve was a kind of intriguing to me. Any idea of line width of their M nibs.

To answer your original question, if the pens indeed have the inlaid nib (embedded) and look like the triumph 440, then the country of origin will be marked clearly on the cap or heat stamped on the plastic barrel and also marked on the nib's tail in some cases. Just take a closer look.

here is an informative article with lots of pics so you can find out which pen:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
