I was in an antique shop today and in a cubby there was a glass case. At the bottom of the case I saw what I thought was a Sheaffer jade colored pen. It wasn't. It was this Desk Pen and Holder with a dog on it. I looked at it and decided I liked it and asked how much. It was $18. The base is marble, the dog is solid metal and the pen has this imprint: Eagle Prestige Pen Made in USA.

 

Part Deux

I got home and looked it up and I found this 1932 ad on Ebay and immediately bought it. It was only a few bucks less than the pen. There's the pooch! What fun!

I have something quite similar that was originally a base for a Parker Duofold in the same time period.       I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
