Another Lamy Massdrop - The Shiny Platinum Studio

I've been watching Massdrop for about 6 months now, and seeing the occasional fountain pen listed - but until the Vanishing Point I hadn't bothered to do anything about it. [Well, except for a Pilot Parallel 4-pen drop - but they're in a different category, at least in my books!] Suddenly they seem to have 3 or 4 on the go at any one time, some of them less spectacular, some of them more so.

Here's the latest: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/lamy-studio-platinum?s=fount

This is an amazing discount (Pen Chalet have the Platinum Studio on sale right now at $319) - but once again, a little (a lot!) outside my price range... Still, kudos to Massdrop for providing this service. I wish they'd space these deals out a little more - and/or hope they repeat some of them in 3-6 months time, to give my wallet time to recharge! - but they're offering some really decent pens at pretty hard-to-beat prices.

No affiliation or remuneration for posting this - though they'd be welcome to throw another Iroshizuku ink in with my Vanishing Point order! :D

Wow I just signed up--the prices are fantastic! too bad I'm on a buying moratorium (which means forgoing some incredible deals). The ink package is really hard to resist.

Thanks for turning me on to massdrop. Anyone know what the Lamy 2000 was going for last time around???

I believe it went for $110 the first time around, and $105 the second...

My Lamy 2000 arrived yesterday, just after 48 days since the" drop". But I have got an amazing pen for half the price and a bottle of Lamy black ink. The pen is just fantastic, I would recommend it to anyone remotely interested in writing instruments of any kind. I might be interested in checking for other pens in the future.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
