Help Identifying My Waterman?

Hi everybody!

I was given a Waterman fountain pen as a Christening present, and have only now (24 years later) got a job which requires such a lovely pen, so it has taken me a very long time to get it out of the box haha.

I was wondering if any of you folks are able to identify it for me?

To my untrained eye it looks like a Lauriat, but this is from about 5 minutes looking through old catalogues, so I could be very wrong.

I have attached photos, but since they're not of great res, I'll just summarise its looks here:

It looks to be either grey (a very dark one) or a very grey-ey green. It has the W on the bottom of the pen, and also on the top clip. The nib has an M on it (I'm guessing that stands for medium, the size of the nib) and that's about it from what I can see.

Any help is much appreciated :)

Tom.

(P.S.) I know I can, and I fully intend to, use these forums to look up proper care and such for this pen, but if any of you guys have any tips before I start using it for writing (such as cleaning it etc.) that would be awesome!

(P.P.S.) This may just be me worrying too much, but will any ink be okay for this pen? I'm thinking of just getting a pot of Parker ink; this isn't going to screw up the pen is it? Thanks :) :)

Looking through old catalogues interests me....do you have some or was this online somewhere.

It's a series 1 Laureat to be precise.

Yes, M = medium

Parker is good or stick to Waterman.

If you want to clean it just soak it a while in warm soapy water.

About ink: With a converter you can use any ink as long as it is fountainpen-ink.

Drawing ink used for dip-pens (India ink) is a bij NO as these inks will badly clog up your feed.

Enjoy your pen

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
