A sincere man am I
From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

nice list. I'm glad the Paperpanelia link is included.

Just want to say that when you do start practicing, be sure to focus. Critique (not criticize) your work and concentrate on fixing the imperfections. Don't just mindlessly copy. You'll just reinforce bad habits. 5-10 minutes of hard mindful work is better than 30min of rote.

If you're doing something like Spencerian or business hand, do the slants and oval drills. They help to limber, and even if you don't practice the lettering, the lines and curves will carry over.

Penmanship forum here is fun to visit from time to time too.

http://www.paperpenalia.com/handwriting.html is what I find extremely helpful, and it's a quick read as well.

Above link + pick a hand writing style that you want to practice on... and practice (again and again).

You can find the information on the basic of using fountain pen fairly easy with Google. However, I learn that the practice is what will take a lot of patience and time.

In my opinion, the best way to improve handwriting is to practice it by consciously thinking about what you are doing and taking it slow. For example, a while ago, I decided to change the way that i write an uppercase cursive "F" to a different form that wouldn't be as awkward to write when taking notes quickly. For a while, I had to consciously think about how is was writing it, but after a while, it became second-nature. You will eventually develop decent, legible handwriting given enough time and practice.

The sites above are excellent suggestions. I would also suggest getting yourself a notebook with french ruled paper. Goulet sells Clairefontaine notebooks with the french rule which I would definitely vouch for. The ruling forces you to keep your letter sizes consistent and has really helped me to tame my once egregious handwriting.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
