I think PIX only appeared after a certain year.

If it has an internal piston filling mechanism then go ahead as it will be authentic. Don't worry about it having nothing under the clip

It's a special pen, and the price is great. I'd go for it.

Make sure the body is in perfect shape. I remember reading somewhere that Montblanc cannot repair bordeaux pens anymore, as there are no more bordeaux parts available.

Most real Montblancs will have no engraving under the clip and most will have no serial numbers. Serial numbers only started in the early 90s and have been six numbers and also seven numbers with no letters and with letters.

I'd buy it in a heart beat at that price, looks like the real deal to me.

There is such a rich depth to that Bordeaux color. That looks like a great MB pen.

Not every real pen has something engraved under the clip. Especially older ones, there were no engravings or the trademark "Pix" anywhere on the pen. Some brand new pens don't even have "Pix" on them at all. I have two Bordeaux pens that do not have anything under the clip. At this time, most markings were only "Germany" or "W.-Germany" and a serial number which could also be in various forms such as 6 numbers, 2 letters & 6 numbers, etc.

Also the engravings had different characteristics where some were deep or shallow, some were large or smaller, etc. This pen looks completely authentic and is a great price for a wonderful pen. As stated, Montblanc pens with pistons are not often faked especially around the era of the Bordeaux models.

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

This is true. If it needed any new parts they would have to be black

That's interesting, it's the opposite to what was said on this forum a few months back! I'll try to find the other post, but several people stated that Montblanc had a supply, albeit a small one, of bordeux spares

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
