Can I Get An Opinion On This Mont Blanc Fountain Pen - Authentic?

I buy and sell estate and purchased an estate that contained a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck fountain pen and would like some opinions as to whether it is authentic or not. I will post photos - it does not have any serials numbers and nothing is written on the under side of the pocket clip. The very thin top ring says W-Germany. Any help you guys can give is appreciated it is just not something I know a lot about. Hi Amy,

It is an original Mont Blanc Meisterstuck classic. No doubt.

In the ring of the clip, it says 'Germany". It should also have a serial number which consists of a combination of letters and numbers.

Can you find it?

Bram

It looks like it could be a 144 Classique. It should have a serial number round the other side of the clip band. If you have a loupe or a magnifying glass it might be there.

Could we see a picture of the feed to be certain?

Amy what you have is a nice older Meisterstück Classique fountain pen also referred to as a 144. It sounds like this was made before the serial numbers were put on them so you will not find one. "W.-Germany" is the only engraving that should be on it as this was probably made before 1990. If you unscrew the section with the nib, is there a converter inside?

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

Here are photos of the inside of the pen. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/4/6/9/0/1/webimg/790998493_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/4/6/9/0/1/webimg/790998495_o.jpg

This all looks great. Appears to be an original authentic Montblanc converter. Also, some pens produced in the later era of W.-Germany DO have serial numbers as this process started before the re-unification but this was only for a few years I believe so there are very few. It is more likely that a W.-Germany clip will not have a serial number but there are some that do have serial numbers. This helps even more to date the pen. Unfortunately this model is highly faked but if you market it well and clearly show authentication factors, you should be good in reselling especially with the converter. I hope this helps :)

Looks legit... But I will leave it to the experts for your ease of mind.

Congrats on a lively piece. I love when things like this are left around for someone else to discover.

I wish I found one when I bought my house :(

I don't have the cartridges to test it - It is in great condition and probably writes just fine. I do not use fountain pens so I would not know if it was writing the way it should or not.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
