Lamy Repair

Does Lamy provide lifetime warranty on Safaris? The top two pieces securing clip to cap just popped off mine and it appears the top black piece is broken off a stem.

If in the USA:

All Lamy pens sold in the US carry the following warranty:
Lamy pen warranties its writing instruments for the life of the product**. If repair is required other than from abuse or misuse, then for a small handling and return postage charge of $9.50 per pen, Lamy products will repair, refurbish, and return any Lamy instrument. If other parts have been abused, there will be a special charge. Otherwise, there are no labor or parts charges.

**The Lamy warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, abuse, unauthorized service and the use of other manufacturers refills or inks.

Seems a lot more stringent in the USA. I could be wrong but that hints that if Noodlers or Diamine or whatever are used the warranty is void

how would they know if you flush before sending?

I don't know, but maybe they have ways, and it's in their best interests to have a way. They can turn around and say that if you had have used Lamy ink as intended then there probably wouldn't have been any damage, and nobody could prove otherwise. It sounds like a get out clause by manufacturers to blame anything and everything on the use of 'foreign' inks so as to encourage the use of their ink only.

I see your point, however I don't think they would go to such lengths. Who knows.

And now I cant get the many "we have ways of making you talk" cat pictures out of my head.

I think the point is that they won't cover *damage caused by* use of other manufacturers'inks. If they find evidence of corrosion, clogging etc that they suspect is a consequence of such, they would reserve the right to refuse warranty repair. On the other hand, if the piston mechanism is sticking, and you've only been using "safe" inks like Waterman Serenity Blue, I doubt they'd invoke this clause...

Perhaps if the damage was a result of the ink, then they could reject your claim.

They couldn't, or shouldnt, reject a repair claim on a clip just because you use Diamine ink for instance. The two aren't related.

Hello JCP,

As others have said above, if you live in the U.S., it is warranted for life. As long as the pen doesn't show signs of abuse, (aside from the actual damage, naturally), you shouldn't have any problems.

Check out the Lamy website for the new address; they recently moved their repair facilities from CT to Houston, TX. - so don't use the address on your warranty slip.

Best regards,

Chris

I emailed Lamy USA well over a week ago. Didn't hear back so I emailed Lamy Germany, and they finally emailed me back, directing me to use Lamy USA.... I don't think I'll ever get a hold of them! I'll probably give them a call on my lunch break tomorrow. Good luck with your Safari. I hope they respond quickly, or at all!

For $9.50 and the cost of shipping it to them (a few more bucks and the hassle), I would just order another Safari over the 'net. Then you'll have two nibs, since they are easily swapped.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
