Any Areas To Look For In Hardwar, Uttarkhand

So I am here at haridwar (hardwar) for a short trip with my parents and this being a spiritual getaway for the mundane Indian, it does not hold much interest to me other than the breathtaking views.

So, the little bug nudged me, and I ,upon seeing a big stationary shop, went in to ask about ... u know what!!

I was disappointed when I was shown cheap Disney themed ink pens, they eagerly wanted to show me Parkers, but I wasn't interested.

So learned friends, do u know about anything of interest around here, that deals in,.. you know what.. ??

And oh, my gf challenged me that I wont find anything here. Plz prove her wrong :)

Haridwar, nice place! I have been there several times. but have never looked for pens, but i am pretty sure these should be some shops selling the Humble Camlins and Heros atleast. Look in the main market area towards the approach road to Hari ki Paudi. Tell us what you find.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

Wolverine, FPN has a quite large base of Indian users like the erudite and helpful Hari317. I have been very grateful for the wealth of Indian shop recommendations here, owing to which I managed to find some absolutely glorious vintage pens in Mumbai, and enjoy a visit to Fountain Pen Hospital in Calcutta.

Anirban4u, I don't know Haridwar, but I do know that one of my best vintage hauls came from a stationer's shop in Vidisha, MP - a town where the only sign of wealth is the fact that the tractors are shinier and more modern than elsewhere in the state :-) They weren't particularly high-end, but a whole box of 1940s ebonite for a few hundred rupees made me a sumgai for the day. I wish you similar good luck.

Went to two shops near Kankhal. Camlin pens and inks rule here.

But I saw the much coveted trinity and picked up 2 of these goodies.

And guess what, the shop-owner had a small cache of nibs. I picked up 5, hopefully they'll be pretty good as replacement for my walities (walitys).{yes, my wality nibs are duds :( }

Woo Hoo :D

As my schedule is pretty tight, I'll post pics when I return to my workplace.

Next stop is Delhi. Hopefully Chandni Chowk will have a few shops ;)

In the 1970's I visited Haridwar and Rishikesh as part of a college study abroad trip. I loved that part of India. Beautiful scenery, and the life along the river was fascinating. It was long before I became interested in fountain pens, so I have nothing to offer in that regard. I'd love to see any pictures though.

Not Chandni Chowk, that's too touristy, and very much focused on textiles. Head up Nai Sarak instead. Serwex is there, and some good stationery shops, though not so much in fountain pens. FP shops around Connaught Place, though they had mainly Chinese pens and no vintage that I could see.

Too many pens, too little time!

For the inquisitive soul..

1. Bhargav brothers, near Hardwar station. Disney, montex, parkers and above..

2. A stationary shop near Vinayak hotel, Chandracharya chowk. Picked up 2 trinities (trinitys ??)

3. Another stationary shop near LG hotel, Ranipur chowk. Picked up those nibs.

I have the feeling that I did a sumgai on those nibs. :D

Dear Anirban...your trip to Haridwar and your hunt for pens and actually locating some pens and nibs reminded me of my hunting for pens in Gaya, Bihar (see here) ... Hari helped me too...

Please post pictures of your finds...and good that you mentioned the names of the places where you found your goodies...

Regards,

Jai

@Jai,

Next time you visit Gaya,please give me a shout. Those pens are simply stunning, and though I'd very much like to visit the shop, it's impossible for me now.. :(

I'll show off my pickings at hardwar, kolkata & Delhi tomorrow.

got myself a parker vacumatic junior ;)

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
