Pilot Mr At Walmart

Found silver at a Walmart yesterday, black at a second Walmart today. At each store it appears that either the fountain pen sold the best, or they had fewer of the fountain pens than the ballpoint and gel pen. These are excellent pens.

I looked at a Walmart in the Phoenix area. Nothing but ball point pens in packs. Nothing remotely interesting to a FPN-er

Tried again at the Cullman AL store; still no joy.

They have them at the Wal-Mart on Bethany Home and 15th Ave. They are on the endcap of the pen section, ballpoints and fountain pens for $12.97.

Look on the endcaps, I had to ask an employee where they had them.

Found one in an Ohio store on Saturday, bought the black one. What a surprisingly nice pen!

Weird thing is I had to go back to the store yesterday and the end cap and pens are gone.

I wish I could have found a Metro at my local Walmart. There were only a handful of Rollers and BPs on the rack when I went by a few days ago.

This is what the display looks like for those of you still looking.

After reading this thread yesterday I happened to be in my local walmart and chose to cruise through the pen aisle. Low and behold right there in the middle of the pilot pens was one lonely fountain pen. I swiped it up and looked all over for one more I could give my wife to get her started. No dice. But thanks to the OP for starting this thread because I would have never thought to look at walmart.

BTW mine wasn't on any end cap or special place, just right in the middle of all the ball points and gel pens. It was silver with a medium nib. My first medium and I think I like them!!!!

SCO-O-O-O-ORE!!!!! :D

The Cullman Walmart had the end-cap set up today. Two of the three sides were plain and fancy G2s. and the MR side was covered by another display, but I was able to get to it. Only two of the ten display pegs were FPs (and there were only two pens); the rest were BPs and RBs. I grabbed a black one, brought it home (after paying for it), and inked it up with Susemai Blackstone Black Cashmere. It feels good in the hand and writes a smooth, wet line, thinner than I expect from a medium nib, but then it is a Japanese medium. $12 well spent.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
