I will be there as well - never been to the Sheffield show and I'm looking forward to it.

Well I definately won't be at the Sheffield show as I will be on a flight to LA for a late holiday. Next pen show for me will be the South West show in Bristol

  • 2 weeks later...

I'll probably be there - the Copthorne is handy for some dim sum on London Road if I've got any money left!

Does anyone know what time it starts?

Will TRY to be there.

Sunday trains are straight though from Kettering but start late on a Sunday. Does anybody know what the hours of the show are? It may be worth it, even if I roll in a little late.

I went to my first pen show in London last month, after avoiding pen shows for years, and I seem to have got the bug! :)

Thanks

The publicity for this show has been very poor - as it was for the first show in 2013 when in spite of living in Sheffield I only heard of the show 2 days AFTER it happened! Hopefully there will be more than just the 8 of us - but I'm not confident yet.

Thank you for publishing the date - shout it out loud to everyone!

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

I agree, the publicity has been terrible.

If anyone has any further details about this show I'd be very grateful.

The UK Pen Shows website still only has 2013 dates listed. I've just tried to use details under the Contact Tab on that site and an email to one of the addresses given has bounced straight back with a 'failed permanently' message

I'd very much like to attend this show and it would in fact be my first show but I don't want to spend time arranging things if it's not going to be worth it.

Best Wishes,

David

Further to my previous post, I have just had email confirmation from the other email address listed on the UK penshow website that the Sheffield show is going ahead and will be open to the public from 10.00 a.m.

Best Wishes,

David

How does this show compare to the Northern Pen Show? Has anyone been to both?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
