Edmonton Fountain Pen Club Meeting - October 4

The 2nd meeting of the Edmonton Fountain Pen Club

October 4, 11:30, Enterprise Square

We are meeting downtown in Enterprise Square. For those unfamiliar, in the old Bay building downtown on the ground floor, there is a bunch of chairs in front of the gallery. This is usually a pretty quiet space with room to spread out. The coffee shop is not open on Saturday, so bring your own.

Hope to see everyone there but if you can't make it to this meeting, sign up to our email at the website in my signature to keep up to date.

GemOro in West Ed has it but the lady I bought from knew absolutely nothing and they had pretty old stock. Ask me for the story on Saturday. :)

There is also a GemOro in Commerce place and I imagine they would carry it as well. Commerce Place is a very short walk from Enterprise Square in the pedway system. I haven't been in there to buy inks but I am pretty sure they are open on Saturdays. They are across from Starbucks and very near Lollapalooza which has exceptional chocolate.

There's a jewelry store in south gate that sells MB, can't remember the name but you'd know it to see it, I bought a bottle of MB Black there a while back. Gemoro is horrendous, I bought a Longines watch there a while back and was not impressed by their staff.

Bring that MB 34, too... I was actually almost going to buy that or the 32 yesterday but didn't. Would love to hear about your experience with it.

You got it, I already know which pens Im gonna bring and the 34 made the cut - that nib is incredible, I'd love to share the experience of writing with it.

Next time I am in Edmonton I will have to check the club pages and see when you all meet and maybe drop in. BlueJay should get you all energized in Edmonton too.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has looked into a date for the next pen meet. Now that we're closer to November I know that I'm occupied on the 1st and 15th.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
