Does it have USA finial or ROC star?

USA, a stylized section of the American flag. I tried to get a picture of it, but my camera doesn't do macro. To bad Kbeezie isn't a neighbor :D

I also received my 580 USA (two of them, actually) from isellpens. Thanks, Todd!

My first TWSBI. I was incredibly impressed. With everything...the packaging, the instructions, the design and construction. Fit and finish. And of course, how it writes.

Filled my with Sailor Jentle Blue, to match the piston knob.

Like an idiot, I saw it come in via the Goulet Communique email while at work and thought "I'll go buy one w a fine point when I get home."

Sold out...or out of stock already? Wow.

The pen is very attractive, and it certainly stands out. it screams "Hey look at me I'm USA!"

I wonder if TWSBI will ever consider flags from around the world.

I would not expect people from other countries to be as excited about the USA model as we Yanks are :P

That said, the same colors would work, with a different finial, for Australia, Britain, France, and some other countries.

The original version of this pen was the ROC (Republic of China) version, with a Taiwanese flag on the finial. Would I like to see an Australian version? Sure - I'd even consider buying one! Do I expect TWSBI would bother to custom-make a pen for such a small market? Probably not...

Mine came this week. It's my first TWSBI and I love it! Inked with Diamine Mediterranean Blue. I've been finding all sorts of excuses to write all sorts of things!

This Australian was very excited by the colour and bought one. It has displaced my 2000 as a daily write. I originally bought a fine and 1.1 nib, didn't really like the fine so bought a medium, what a difference. Filled at present with J Herbin - Stormy Grey.

Overall a great FP, no problems at all with it at all.

I've had mine a while--got an EF nib because it was all Goulet had left and I had dilly-dallied in ordering it --the were selling out like crazy. Well, I love the EF nib and I keep it filled with Kon-Peki (Iroshizuku.) It probably is my favorite pen and it caught the eye of my excellent apprentice. However, he's getting a more sedate set of Lamy's for a present and if he gets to another achievement level, I may give him this pen as well.

Meanwhile, I get a lot of pleasure out of using it. Blue ink looks spectacular in the reservoir. And it holds a lot of ink.

Dave, I love the pen and the ink!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
