Arabian Rose - Private Reserve

Arabian Rose if - for me - example of subtle and elegant shade of violet family. It's rather boring in fine nibs but in wet medium and broad ones it looks nice.

And a Herbin Poussiere de Lune.... Amethist purple... Very decent for everyday writing....

I thought it was a bit too dry. What was your experience?

Looks nice, dark enough to be legible. Seems like a violet shade of rose rather than what I would consider true rose. But it's not a very manly color.

Holy Skrip Persian Rose, Batman! I'd love to see a side by side compo of this with the vintage Skrip.

I am a man, and I'll use any colour ink I damn well please.

I have it inked up right now. If you have some of the Skrip ink, I can write you a letter and we can do CRV.

I wish I had some Persian Rose. Letters always welcome, though!

I like it, and have some ... unused recently. This reminds me I should use it again.

What is a 'manly ink' (green maybe ... like The Incredible hulk? :) )

It seems anything other than black is not "manly". If that were the case I'd have to get rid of most of my inks and all of my pink shirts

It takes a real man to write with a colored ink.

And wear a pink shirt!

Maybe even both at the same time!!

I like Arabian Rose. It looks more manly in some nibs than others, I mean darker.

It has a little water resistance, in that it wont wash completely away leaving a legible shadow.

One of my favorite red-violet colors. As close to a real mauve as I have found. And I haven't had problems with it being too dry --at least not in a Pelican with a medium nib.

As for the "manliness" issue, I might predict that were the word "rose" not in the name, men might like it more. You could easily call it "Arabian WINE" and some might like it more perhaps. It really does have a kind of burgundy look to it.

Fortunately my gender identity is not precariously balanced on which inks I use... ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
