Currently In Tochigi...

Hello all, couldn't where else to post so here I go...

I am currently in Tochigi and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for places to get pens from. I will have no chance to go to Tokyo before it is suggested, too many family and friend commitments ;)

If your near Tokyo go to Katsumi Kawakubos pen shop or the Nakaya pen shop

If you are up north a little you got to visit Hakase

Been there. Done that.

Try the Watanabe Fountain Pen Shop.

Another Suggestion. Go here: http://www.mannenhitsu.info/fpenmap/750/200-2/

Translate to English. there are three listings for Tochigi.

Thank you Hooligan, but both of those are a bit too far away.

Thank you stan, the listed three are businesses rather than shops. However, the Watanabe fountain pen shop is not only close to me but also close to a large stationary shop and a neko cafe that my wife wants to visit, which is the perfect excuse ;)

Businesses might sell pens.

Check them out anyway. Cannot hurt.

Ok, so... many of the businesses were just offices and the Watanabe fountain pen shop has closed.

However I did find a really nice stationary shop called 'Ue Bun'.

There I got some really nice mechanical pencils and a pen I have always loved. The Platinum #3776 Century Bourgogne, 14k Fine nib for 20% off Japanese retail price, with a great exchange rate and a free ink converter. So, all in all, Utsonomiya was well worth the visit :) If I hadn't been directed to this area, I would never have found it!

Thank you all, and happy writing :)

Hello,

Have you ever been to Terauchi Fountain Pen Hospital in Tochigi?

I've never been there, but I am interested in.

It looks very old shop, and I am not sure if they are doing the shop now but,

If you have time, why don't you visit.

I don't know if they speak English..

Please check below address with google map.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
