JF_LAMY Collection

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I believe that there are not many FP fans that don´t know about this very interesting pen from my favourite pen maker - LAMY.

But for those of you, who have not seen it yet, here are some pictures of the LAMY_74_dialog3.

All pictures can be seen on my FLICKR account here.

Any comments are welcomed.

Thank you and enjoy.

Kind regards,

Jan

Hi Jan

Yes, compared to the Safari and 2000 a much lesser known pen. I have one myself. Like shown, I have the titanium coloured version. There's a black version as well.

Nib is very smooth, gold, same system as the steel nibs, in fact, you could put that nib on your Safari..

Pen is front heavy, which feels strange at first, most people expect some drag at the back because of posting.

While it writes very nice, if it writes, it has a problem with drying out real fast. That door does not close well.

Contrary to the Pilot Capless/VP which is button operated, this one is actuated by turning front and back opposite. The marks for the relative positions are not very clear.

I wonder, where did you get that number 74 in "Lamy 74 Dialog 3"????

I don't see that at Lamy's website??

Hello RMN,

Thank you for your comment. You are exactly right, I was also surprised how heavy the pen is and also how big it is. But it is an excellent writer, the nib is really smooth. Mine I did not ink, but did write with some other pieces.

Regarding the No. 74, I believe that it is a “model No.” I think I read it on the box or maybe on the card that came with it. It can also be seen here.

I first noticed this numbering on the LAMY lady box. The model No. is 42.

Kind regards,

Jan

Indeed, nr L74. But that could be just be the order code for the online shop from Lamyusa, where your link leads.

Hello RMN,

Yep, that might be true, but I think I got it from the box and the pen was bought here in Czech Republic. And the LAMY lady was bought in Germany, and there is also the Model No.

Well, let´s hope, someone will explain ... :)

Kind regards,

Jan

74 is indeed the model number for the dialog 3. The black version is simply "74 black" (or, more correctly, "74 schwarz").

The outer box (that houses the wooden box that carries the pen) will have a barcode sticker on the end with the model no. However, they sometimes fall off..

I like the look of the black version because I'm not a fan of metal grips.

I have concerns about whether this pen dries out though, as I've read that it does and that it's a 'hard starter'. I would be interested to learn if the case prevents it from drying out

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
