My Omas Collection: Is 49 Close To Overdose?

It started simply enough. I saw a pre-owned Omas Paragon at an attractive price in the Classifieds. I had read a lot about them, so figured I couldn't go too far wrong at the price and would give it a try.

How could I know that not quite two years later my Omas collection would have grown to 49 pens, and would have pushed out almost all other pens from my pen box(es)? Oh, Nakaya caught my fancy and I have added one plus a great Platinum Izumo Makie, but Omas still represents my favorites. So is 49 an overdose? Not for me!

I thought it was past time to try to get a family photo. But given my simple “point and shoot” capabilities with a 15 year old camera, a single photo would never do. So I broke them into groups. I hope you enjoy seeing the whole family tree.

Certainly the prize in my collection is a never inked set of celluloids that Omas issued as the “Celluloid Collection” in a Limited Edition of 50 sets. The set contains 1 of each of the seven different colors, each with a different size nib.

I left these unlinked, but liked them so much I then assembled a second “set” of seven to write with. I have one of each color, though not all different nibs.

My favorites are Paragons. Here are an additional variety of celluloids .

L to R are a newer Arco Brown, Wild, Mueller,Cinema, Burkina, Extra Lucens and a recent Arco Brown that is actually a Milord, but is larger than the earlier Paragon.

The next shot contains resin Paragons.

L to R are dark blue, Ferrari, blue Italia, green Italia, Goya, FAO, and Europa

And next up still more Paragons

L to R are black (my very first Omas), Titanium T2, Titanium Bronze, Aubergine (again, actually a Milord), Art Deco LE, and two Columbos. Why two Columbos? Because after buying one and loving it, I found one with a factory OBB nib I couldn't pass up!

More recently I started to add Ogivas.

L to R are Arco Brown, Saft Green, D Day, Blue Demonstrator, Green Demonstrator, MOMA in Briar, Amerigo Vespucci, and metal bodied pens in blue marbled and red marbled finish. Wish I could find the green!

Finally, while not my favorites, I somehow ended up with a group of the smaller guys.

L to R are Milords in burgundy and red, a Dama in burgundy, Biblioteque (cream color), and a last Milord in gray.

If you’ve made it this far, I have to ask…. are you overdosed? While I sometimes think I’m getting close, with Columbus and LA shows not far off, I have a feeling the next Family Photo may be larger yet!

Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for reading!

I'm also close to overdose. I got around 40 or so. And I'm now looking for a platinum paragon. It exists in theory and it's on their catalogue but I never seen/heard of one yet.

I've seen some beautiful 360's, but I just don't get along with them. I write with my index finger on top, so it hits right on one of the 360's edges and I find that not comfortable. Therefore, no 360's for me.

To my surprise, I find that the Ogivas tend to write really nicely, especially the wood ones. I realize that should make no difference in writing, but I suppose the whole tactile experience probably affects one's opinion. The two Columbos are special favorites.

Ahhhh, what a lovely collection! And I'm glad to hear of someone else who loves Omas who's equally taken with their briar pens. I have an A.M. 87 that I especially enjoy using. Do you have any of the Omas International Club pens?

Wonderful collection :) thanks for pics.

Do Omas make a sterling silver Paragon?

They issued Sterling Silver Paragons just this year - 35 each in silver or vermeil finish. They look really nice, but are pricey. I'll probably eventually buy one (or maybe both) if I find any pre-owned, or if someone eventually offers a "too good to pass up" price like I found on the Titaniums I have.

I don't have any Club pens, though I have admired them at pen shows. Guess I just never found the right pens at the right price!

Very impressive collection, and thanks for sharing. I too was bitten by the Omas bug for a time but am now down to just two Omas Celluloid Paragons, one in scarlet with a cursive italic nib ground by Linda Kennedy, and a blue royale with a fine nib.

Very nice, I love the wood paragons too..... you need the green arco re-edition, the 360 wild thing. I am fighting myself right now on the Arco 360/

Spectacular.....

I agree :) The 360 was actually my first introduction to Omas, in black, and you couldn't pry it outta my hand during the last conference I taught. It started many a conversation in Singapore that I would never have the pleasure of here in North America as I never seem to run into any one appreciative.

You must get the demonstrator - so unique.

That is such an amazing, variegated collection!

Beautiful collection! I think you need to add some vintage models. Those red and blue metal bodied pens are interesting. Do you have more info on them? When were they produced and what are they called?

I believe they were produced in late 1990's/2000 time frame. I have the red and the blue, and I know there was also a green which I would love to find. I have seen rollerballs, too.

I don't have any other information, nor do I know whether they had a specific name.

Holy Smokes! Amazing collection. I am Arco Green with envy.

No. Not an overdose. Close though.

As they used to say in the U.S. Army, "smoke 'em, if you got 'em." I say "buy 'em, if you can afford 'em."

Excellent collection and thanks for sharing the pics. Surely 49 just seems incomplete, I think you need a special number 50.

LOL! Funny you should mention it, but I just ran across this one which is inbound as #50. It is kind of special. Better photos once it arrives.

very nice collection  you can't have too many omas pens

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
