Anyone Else Find Their Postal Service Totally Incompetent?

Not sure where this belongs, but the postal system is paraphernalia to pens I guess.

Anyway, lately have been having problems with Royal mail losing quite a lot of my mail, that has required me to fill in a lot of lost mail forms.

It is getting to the point that I want to start a blog on hate for the Royal Mail, as I am missing letters I should be getting, and lovely letters I have written simply do not turn up.

Does anyone have any issues with their national mail service?

Postal Service is really bad in my city in the USA too. Till date, I have written 12 letters to my FPN penpals and Pentrace penpals, and not one has been delivered. For example, I have sent 4 letters to our FPN member Sasha Royale, and I am sure he hasnt recieved a single letter of mine yet. I think I am going to send him a letter via UPS.

I have used the United States Postal service with nothing but good results. I just got a letter in the mail from a FPN member, and expect to reply shortly. They do great work for a great price. I'd go into something that would turn into politics, but that breaks the forum rules, so I'll stop now.

I think that USPS is by far my best mail option. I have frequently had FedEx not even try to deliver to my apartment - it's like they see an apartment building and automatically stick a note on the door without even buzzing. It's happened in two different states, so I know it's not just my local driver. And UPS is hit or miss - sometimes they come by at 5:30 or 6, so I'm home for my package, otherwise they come at noon and there's no chance I'll be able to get it. At least with USPS there's a good chance that they will leave it in my mailbox (if it fits) or on top of the mailboxes, since they can get into the building.

Here in the USA (Can't speak for Royal Mail), USPS seems to be in most cases better than UPS or Fedex. There are sometimes small issues here and there but nothing major except for like one time folding a package in half to get it into the mailbox.

My issues resulting in damage tends to happen with either UPS or Fedex, their schedules are also more annoying. There was even one time that Fedex would only come early in the morning and would not allow for pickup because they gave an excuse on the phone that due to "National Security" they could not store the packages at their office so there was no pickup option and they could not change the delivery time (was for a laptop ordered from AFES).

Though I have known from some people who mail goods on a constant basis to have more chances to have an issue with USPS, so the more often you need to use them the more likely you may run into a problem.

USPS once delivered a signature needed box to some random dude on the street without taking a signature. They said that they can't do anything because it was delivered to the recipient. A load a bull. Good thing the retailer understood and gave me another item through UPS. (Even though he didn't offer that packaging option.) The regular guy for my neighborhood was on vacation so this moron was covering the neighborhood. And another time the regular guy was on vacation the USPS guy left the package in the middle of the sidewalk even though there was a special key box that only USPS can access to get through the gate. But nope he decided to leave it on the sidewalk. Another time was the dude too lazy to get out of his damn car decided to throw my package and failed. The package hit a tree and bounced off to the middle of the street. All these times happen when the damn regular guy decides he wants to use his vacation time. =/ That thing that bounced was mobo that cracked into 2 parts after a car ran over it. Sigh...

Our security camera rewrites itself every 24 hours so.... yeah. But I've seen it all on the security camera. I should had gotten used to this but I still go berserk ever time this happened. Some how my neighbors gets their packages from the brown uniform guys. =/

When I do try to complain they just say that "because the package was marked as delivered we can't do anything."

For constancy I prefer the UPS or FedEx or Ontrac. For Good service when the regular guy is not on vacation USPS. The the "replacement" guy is always a different each time. I wonder what is his normal job.

USPS is inferior to UPS, FedEx, and DHL in terms of reliability but USPS is cheap and relatively fast.

Has US Customs held up registered mail for anyone recently? I have had one pen sit there for 9 days a couple weeks ago and I have another one that has been there for 12 days now.

All of my imports came thru customs in a relatively fast fashion usually no more than 1 to 2 days before showing as exiting customs.

i ordered a Jinhao pen from China that arrived faster to USA than from Chicago to Florida!! Why should a pen stand on any state's USPS and arrive to Florida 1.5 or 2 weeks later?

If anything, I find my postal service amusing.

The thing is, whenever I receive stuff, it takes two days? (Although the claim is that, local mail delivered by the next business day as long as you post before 1700)

So I posted something on the 12th of February, because I wanted my recipient to get it on Valentine's Day.

And guess what? It arrived on the 13th... thanks SingPost thanks.

They're about to raise prices on October 1, which kinda doesn't make sense when you consider that they're losing business. What company raises prices when they're losing business? A logic I do not comprehend.

The kind that does not expect to get more business if they lower the price.

I use USPS only and love them. I insure every pen I send out and the only time something was lost was in Brazil. That's not the fault of USPS. It tracked all the way to Brazil, from one town to another, and the poof. Gone.

One of my boxes was "lost" at a post office in California but turned up when my client went to the office to ask about it.

I still think they're too cheap though. $15 or $20 or even $30 to get something from Arkansas to just about anywhere in the world is amazing.

I couldn't drive a letter across town for .49c and they send them across the country. Yeah I'm not complaining. :)

UPS and Fedex I could do without. My UPS guy used to throw boxes from the curb over my gate onto the front porch when he could have walked another 10 feet up the sidewalk to my back door.

And the subs who deliver for USPS? They're the new guys who get put wherever they're needed. Often times treated poorly by the people they work with (at least around here). I get three or four different subs - they seem to rotate - and they're nice guys, but they don't know where they're supposed to go. It takes a while to get used to a new route. And people gripe at them for being late or missing their house. Give em a break. :) They're (usually) doing their best.

I used Stamps.com for a while but I missed going into the PO and visiting with everybody. I'm lucky with great guys behind the counter.

For me it's normally a day or two but recently shipments have been getting held up. According to the post office US Customs can hold an item for up to 45 days without providing a reason. They said there was no problem with my packages...they were both just pens, so who knows? Stuff that comes in via other services is very fast.

Any speculation as to the total value of pens you've imported over the last year?

Not totally, just occasionally. The package deliverer, or the substitutes, like to leave the peach slips (delivery attempted) in the mail box without even knocking. They just look at the driveway and think it's too long and leave it. I can't remember if the car was in driveway the time I checked the box and found the peach slip and chased the truck down the street to get my package.

I beleave that the quality of ones Postal System is a result of two factors, the quality of the personell and their sense of self. In our are, both are high, and we get good service. Our Postal employees are a part of our community, they are our neighbors. They are paid fairly and have a decent life as the cost of living here while not low is reasonable. Perhaps some of the other respondents to this question receive poor service due to the factors which cause a separation between customers and those who provide them service.

The Dutch postal services are OK. They make some mistakes but overall they're efficient and reliable. Unfortunately, I can't call my next-door neighbour the same. Yesterday I wasn't at home when the postman arrived and he delivered my package to him, leaving me the usual note. This is common practice and at my neighbourhood people are quite helpful. Unfortunately, in this case the neighbour has disappeared for 24 hours already. I hope he hasn't gone to some country with no extradition agreement with the Netherlands to live on the proceeds of selling my pens. He'll be bitterly disappointed: these vintage Pilot pens are just good, inexpensive daily writers.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
