Nock Lookout Case?

Lovely_Pen

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering what the general consensus is concerning the Nock pen cases--specifically the Lookout case. I'm very tempted to buy one, but I first wanted to make sure that the case could take a beating, before taking the plunge and ordering one. I'm a college student and like most things I tote around campus, it would be thrown about in my backpack and set upon dirty tables, etc...

Now that people have probably had their Nock cases for a few months I thought I'd ask how they're holding up to daily use. Also, is the case easy to clean? Could it be wiped off with a Lysol wipe or even thrown in the washing machine?

Thanks for any replies!

Seems easy to clean, at least on the outside; I have not tried reaching into the slots to clean it. I accidentally dropped the case from table height to a tiled floor with pens inside, and they remained secured without any scratch or dent that I could see (but your mileage may vary, of course).

I am very happy with my Brasstown. It is well made and durable if also a trifle bulky. It protects my pens well and has ample room for a Pelikan 800 or an Ahab. Even my very oversize Shawn Newton custom pen fits in any of the slots.

Not cheap, but mine is doing fine. It seems to be really well made, and the designs are great.

Really? It's $20...seems pretty cheap to me. Don't know of any decent 3-pen cases that are cheaper.

I have a Lookout and I really like it. It's as nice and protective as any soft case I've ever used. Pens fit great, the whole thing works well, and I really like the materials it's made out of. Seems like it should hold up well. Not sure about machine washing it...but you could easily just wipe it down with a wet cloth I think. If you're going to be super dirty with it just get a dark color. I have navy and love it.

I just meant in the context of nylon type cases you can get on Jetpens and other sites for $10-15. Nock is definitly not overpriced.

I take mine to the office every day for a few months now. It has helped up perfectly. I have the Hightower and keep a Rhodia #12 pad and three pens in it

Thanks for all the replies. I feel somewhat assured of the case's resilience and just ordered one in the orange and blue combo (I love complimentary pairings). I can't wait to get it in the mail and start using it! It's about time I had some sort of dedicated fountain pen holder... :)

Lovely_Pen, I notice that you are in SF. I am in Albuquerque, and although my schedule doesn't currently allow me to attend the New Mexico Pen club meetings, I do know that several other members have Nock cases. Ask around if you attend these.

I have the Lookout (got it first) and the BrassTown and I love both of them. I am using the Brasstown more [for now] because if the number of pens I have inked .. but the lookout is perfect if I just want to grab 2 or 3 pens for on the go.

The lookout is my favorite of all the Nock Co cases included in the original kickstarted campaign. It's made of a textured 1000D Cordura-like nylon. It's a nice roomy case but it is soft sided so I don't feel that it protects as well as my 3 pen Pelikan case. That said I don't like that my pens touch with the Pelikan so I use the Lookout more.

I just got my Lookout today and I LOVE it! The flap does stay securely closed because it loops under a strap which keeps it in place. I'd say the pouch is extremely well made and I picture it lasting for a very long time. It suits my needs perfectly (it's colourful, well made, attractive, and holds just the right amount of pens for me).

I honestly couldn't really recommend it enough.

Those look very nice. But will the somewhat rough-seeming nylon scratch or scuff pens over time? Also, what about clipping them over what in the photos appears to be material significantly thicker than the average pocket?

Here's a picture to show how well the case fits a large Safari. I don't think there would be any problems with the pen clip and the thickness of the fabric it latches onto. But that's just me.

-- just realized the picture never saved. whoops.

The inner nylon material is very smooth, I can't see it doing any harm to a pen. And the thickness where it clips isn't too thick either, that is something I am fairly sensitive to but I have no qualms clipping my pens in place in this. It shows that the were designed and built by pen geeks, it gets all the little things right.

Thanks for the photo, Lovely_Pen, and for the description, slide13. I can see now that there's no lip over which you have to fit the clip, or if there is one, it's tiny. And the material is not as thick as I feared. Useful to know. :)

I still find the nylon lining worrisome, though. I can't help thinking that the constant tiny shifts the pen would go through during the day would cause some slow erosion. The nylon may be mostly smooth, but it is textured, and I can't recall ever having seen a textured liner for a pen case before.

I think I'd worry too much about that lining. But if they make one with a soft fabric lining, I'll definitely buy one. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
