Any Thoughts On This X5 Lot Of Vacumatics On Ebay

I am in love with the Vacumatic I picked up at the recent DC Pen show. It has leapt in front of my more modern pens with its velvet smooth nib and style. I want to add a few more Vacs and saw this little lot on Ebay. Any thoughts on the listing below. They look clean albeit later models than what I have and price is still not to crazy!

Thanks

Andy

Thanks for your thoughts. I guess they may well go for that money - albeit near mint to me means unused albeit a little aging, but these clearly have wear on them.

Azure pen barrel is seamed variant and the cap may be as well; golden pen may also be seamed but I can't see the seam in the pictures, the cap seems to be seamed as well based on colour. It is the right year to be a seamed pen, too, and the colouring from the pictures seems to suggest seaming?! Again, flash usually enhances the stripes so it could just be a camera effect but the blue barrel is clearly seamed.

Neat bonus if you're thinking of buying. They look in good shape. I tend to ignore pretty much all grading words since they mean something different to each person. Between now and the auction end (a bit over 16 hours) I expect the price will jump to about $450-$500 total.

$550.00 and counting.

If I could only sell some of mine for that price I would be happy.

I guess it is how you word what you are selling and how much snake oil you use...

$967.00 What!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I missing something?????

Ditto, maybe add the seller and see if the same 5 pens get relisted in the near future? Can't see each of them going for $200+ each if the intent is resell.

Hmmm, winning bid by a buyer with 26 feedback... and a final price that exceeds the average Vacumatic price (from what I can tell from eBay stats) by a factor of at least 2. Bit surprising I guess.

Oldest bid of all those was 8 days ago. But they don't give any more details like they used to on buyers.

Wow - just saw this. Ebay never ceases to amaze.... Looks like 100% over what you could assemble same 5 pens for if purchased individually. Still I really want a Blue and Burgundy. I did not like the gold trim on these otherwise they would have been perfect...

I buy my Parkers at local auctions for about $30-35 each for the 3rd Gen Vac's If I'm lucky.

I guess it is all in how you present your product. Need to find a used car salesman to ask on how it works.

When I sell anything on the bay I can not be anything but honest when I describe the item in question that I sell.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
