Parker Converter D.o.a., What Would You Do?

Soooo, I ordered a converter for one of my Parkers and this is how it came:

I was suspicious, so I tried to fill it with water and it just drains out, which means this thing isn't going to hold ink either, I assume? If I am wrong, let me know, I just don't want a nasty inky mess if its broken the way I think...

If it IS broken, does anyone know of an easy way to fix these? It looks like the metal receiver that the ink reservoir is pushed into is just friction fit? I don't think it screws in there. Should I pull it apart and glue it? For 10 bucks, I'd rather try to make this work than send it back and wait for a new one...

If the barrel isn't broken you should be able to slide the silver ring back onto the barrel. I would check if they are friction fit for you but my one Parker converter is full if ink at the moment. I don't advocate gluing the pieces together because you may want to take it apart to clean it later.

If it is worth it to you to not send it back I suggest taking it apart and reseating the piston mechanism.

I guess I am afraid if I pull it apart I wont be able to get it back together.

Edit: Oh, just looked closer and the clear plastic tube is indeed broken. Guess I'll be contacting the seller...

Send it back and insist they make it right. You shouldn't have to deal with issues on a brand new part.

You can buy a new on on eBay for peanuts. Being a busy person I'd simply buy a new one and not bother trying to mend this one or get the seller to give me another one.

I guess I'm not as busy, LOL. 10 minute phone call and they said a new one is on the way that will be packed more securely. No charge, don't have to send the old one back. That's good enough for me...my ink still isn't here yet anyway.

Upon further inspection, it is ready to fall completely apart...and it did. Its now in two pieces. And for anyone who was or is wondering, the plastic ink reservoir does indeed screw into the metal part, so a full dis-assembly to clean it should be possible. I'll keep this one for its spare plunger and hope I never need it...

Edit: I actually just worked the broken off piece out of the metal receiver and I was WRONG, it is NOT screw on, it is a friction fit with ridges in the metal that bite down on the plastic ink tube. These are NOT meant to be taken apart for cleaning then...at least not from there.

See above; don't try to take it apart, LOL...thanks for the sentiment though...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
