The Universe In Your Hands

Scriptorium Pens

Recommended Posts

After recently making a commissioned pen in the flush-barrel Nakaya style, I decided I really want to add something like that to my own model lineup. I've experimented with a few designs and am getting close to what I want. This is prototype #2 in Mineral Sea Lava Explosion #3. I plan on playing with the barrel and cap length a bit more, and with the taper of the cap to get a more balanced look, but this is very nearly there. I absolutely love Mineral Sea. It looks like a galaxy in outer space. Every turn of the pen gives a new view of its universe.

Nib: JoWo (Meisternib) #6
Filling system: Cartridge/Converter/Eyedropper

Dimensions:
Length capped: 144mm/5.6”
Length uncapped: 133mm/5.2”
Length posted: NA
Cap length: 65mm/2.5”
Cap diameter: 16.04mm/.63” at widest, 13.35mm/.52 at narrowest
Barrel diameter: 13.7mm/.53” at threads, 15.94mm/.62” at widest
Section diameter: 12.66mm/.49” at widest, 11.13mm/.43” at narrowest

Beautiful !

You must try a plain coloured version - it will show off the pen shape even more stunningly !!

:)

Thanks! That's a great idea for Prototype #3. I'll start on it today. Now....what solid colors do I want to go play with.....?

Heh heh ...

I would pick something high gloss.

The reflections will help to show off its shape.

The shape is SO EXTREMELY beautiful!!!!! Can't wait to see it in a solid color.

Will she tell us or will she surprise us?

The shape is certainly nice but the distinctive material is what hooked me.

Ha! I decided to start the next one in Urushi Red acrylic, a deep, dark reddish burgundy color. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
