Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I need your knowledge and your expertise.

Several months ago aI bougth a chinese zippered case for 40 pens at a very low price on eBay. I bougth it in order to storage my pens. I was very happyt with it

But today I have seen that all my loved lamy safaris (limited, discontinued and normal editios) are stained very depply with blue marks that I can't clean.

I have tried to clean my pens rubbing with pure bleach and with a fine paint polish (form TAMIYA) that I use for making models.

Any recomendation on how to clean my pes? Any other recomendation on a stain-free pen case?

Thank everyone for your help and sorry for my english.

Hello Elperraco,

Since bleach had no effect; perhaps you should try an acid. Do you have any clear vinegar in the house? The 5% solution like we get in the U.S., I know in Europe, there are stronger solutions available, but do not use those- use the 5% version, like Heinz. Try that, but experiment with it first on one of the run of the mill, standard colors - NOT a limited edition or discontinued one.

I'm sorry this happened to you; I hope this helps. :)

Best regards,

Chris

Thank you, I would try with the vinegar. But I am affraid I would need more drastic solutions, like a strong polishing compound.

Hello Elperraco,

Well, a strong polishing compound might get rid of the stains, but it may also craze the finish of the pens. Do you have Novus #1, #2 and #3 plastic polishes available in Spain?

Best regards,

Chris

I would try to find something similar. The shipphing to Spain more than doubles the price of the product. Any other sugestion on a plastic polish?

Sorry, I don't; at least not anything that would remove stains.

Hello Elperraco,

I'm really sorry, my friend. :(

I wish I had the answer for you; perhaps others here will. Hold on to hope. :)

Best regards,

Chris

PS: My final suggestion would be to contact Lamy directly; they may be able to suggest something.

Thanks for your help LamyOne,

This is my plan, use acetone, if doen't work use some Gaia Thinner, this is like lacquer thinner and of course contact Lamy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
