Fraid not.. But nice of you to inquire.. I spoke with Mike, then you were busy with a customer, so I passed by to Ralph's table.. where I successfully (foolishly & regrettably) resisted an overlay Waterman safety, but then found a red ripple pencil to match my ringtop, with its > original $1 sticker, so my big purchase of the day was shockingly > a "pencil" ! When I made it completely around the table you'd just dashed out the door. Truth is, at the end of a show everyone's weary and thinking about the drive home.. so, glad you made it home ok, and see you next year : )

Well P2P you should have interrupted :) . I really wanted to meet you. If you got that ripple pen from Ralph then it is for a 55 or 56 pen. Ralph and I traded and I got the matching 55 ripple pen. Interested?

If you are going to Columbus it will be the same gang with me between Mike Krut and Ralph Stillwell. I will be the handsome one with hair. and I am older than both of them but Ralphs yiddish and German are better than mine.

Next time I will be sure to leap about just as I did when I saw and held the J.G.Rider, so you'll have no doubt it's the old lady admiring the vintage lesser seen pens.

A-Hah I sense a plot.. :) seeing the cited size 55 56, (I am not a Waterman expert), was prepped to say this pencil goes with Your pen, not mine, and should by all means go back to You.. But then to prove my error, I found the Waterman ringtop box, it has it's fitted to the size of the box, rolled, glued tube containing two pages of pen, And pencil instructions that include the ringtop ripple pencil.. went to compare the two, now entirely certain from your post they were two sizes, and guess what, they're exactly the same length.. so did I manage to reunited a correct ripple ringtop vest set? even the rings set directly into the ripple top appear to match.

It's the first time I added a pencil to a pen, that's fairly huge since I'm no longer avidly collecting - though pen history never fails to fascinate.

Have always longed to go to Ohio, hearing it's the warmest, friendliest pen gathering... sadly, not this year. Was supposed to be at an Ohio button show last weekend, but needed to rest up a bit.

Enjoyed my brief visit with Ralph and family.. also thanking Mike for excellent work on my roseglow last year.

Been years since I was scolded in Yiddish, a memorable moment, (shopping in Oak Park), I could have thrown this wisp of older lady easily over my shoulder, but she was such a Force..let her have her moment.. 40 years later still a memory:)

Stay well, enjoy Ohio, see you Next year!

Yes! Thanks for bring so generous sharing your "finds".. even opening to see the unique parts.

In my wildest dreams I'd find one of these pens to see.. and see and hold? - I Did!

The phone shot in bad lighting is very poor, but would you mind if I uploaded it? (that is, If I'm able to do so).

Have fun in OH, and be sure to share finds from there too??? Have heard there's lots of good vintage chat there, so...

I just want to say hello and thank you to everyone that showed up. I had a wonderful time, and the Sweetwaters Cafe is a wonderful place. Thank you for letting me try so many wonderful pens and inks. I see myself getting into trouble with this very soon!!!

A special thank you to the person that helped to worsen my addiction http://fpgeeks.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.png with a selection... a vast array of a selection of ink samples to try. I can see myself placing some ink orders in a few weeks after I've tried some!!!!

Again, thank you all. Getting to see beautiful, never unwrapped vintage Parkers; wonderful flex nibs; J Harbin Stormy Grey ink in person and on paper; Jinhaos I always wanted to try and of course the conversation with a truly honest, nice, warm and welcoming group of people. I look forward to the next one.

I have now vowed, as it is fountain pen day next weekend, that all my social network posts and comments will be images of handwritten notes for the rest of this month.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
