It has changed over time. At the moment, I love orange and blues.

I've tried to like yellow ink but it is too light. I bought and gave away a lot of green inks trying to find one I liked. Turns out I like bright green with a bit of yellow.

Favorite is purples of all sorts- bright, muted, dusty, violet - followed by dark blues and dark reds. Least favorite are browns, which just doesn't click with me, yellows because they are hard to read, and pinks, because I don't have much use for the color in an ink.

No real favourites but I really dislike pink, yellow, and orange for inks. Nothing wrong with the colours, I have pink shirts, yellow pens and orange everything, but they tend to be washed out and hard to read on the page.

Favorite: Blue.

Examples: Noodler's Texas Blue Bonnet, Iroshizuku Kon-Peki, Diamine Asa Blue, De Atramentis Steel Blue

Least Favorite: Purple-ish Blue

A lot of "blue" inks have a purple tint that really bugs me. I rejected Pelikan 4001, Waterman Florida Blue, Levenger Cobalt Blue, Noodler's Baystate Blue, and Herbin Bleu Nuit. All of them are too purple for my taste. (Although, I do rather like Noodler's Violet Vote, which is more of a blue-ish purple!)

Favorite: Diamine Ancient Copper. Just love this ink, especially in a 1.5 nib. Noodler's Antietam looks nearly identical on paper, but the Diamine seems a bit richer.

2nd Fav: Rich blues. Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue

Least Favorite: Anything light or faint. I don't care at all for inks that come out of the pen and already appear faded. I guess I much prefer the bolder colors.

I have to say my Favorite ink is probably black, but I like nearly everything, top three blues, reds and purples.

Least favorite is probably brown, even though I like some sepias.

I like almost all colours, except maybe pink. But I HATE those ink colours which are so light that they look almost invisible, i.e. J. Herbin's Bouquet d'antan, Bleu azure, Gris nuage...

My favourite colours are probably reds/reddish browns, dusty purples, and shading blue blacks in that order.

Examples: Oxblood, Skrip Red, Diamine Monaco Red, Skrip Brown, Ancient Copper, Scabiosa, Midnight Blue, diluted Noodler's Blue Black

I cannot stand: Black inks (dark grey appeals to me though), most blue inks/blurple inks, any excessively bright hard to read inks.

Examples: Aurora Black, Parker Black, Noodler's Black, Noodler's Liberty's Elysium, Skrip Blue, etc. Baystate Blue.

Favorite: Magenta but the right magenta. Right now it's Edelstein Turmaline - mellow, not garish.

I would have said black was my least favorite but then I saw Ebony Purple. :yikes: So I'll have to go with green. Don't like green. Except Syo-ro, it's beautiful.

Inks I love: Forest greens and blues. Close second goes to dark purple / violet.

Inks that don't get much love from me: Grey / silver inks.

I love what Amberleadavis calls eye searing inks. Especially purple and pink ones. I don't like brown or black inks. They're boring.

I'll keep on struggling, 'cause that's the measure of a man.

Favorites change a lot depending on my mood. I'm currently fascinated by darker, but not black, colors. Example: Diamine Syrah, Pendleton Brown's "Blakwa" mix.

I have a hard time getting overly excited about light or washed out colors. Gray, light blue, pink, etc...

Favorite: Blues

Least favorite: Grays (and yet I have 2 bottles for my sins), Black (have a couple but unopened)

Dont even consider them to be real inks: yellows, light orange, pale blue, etc. If I cannot write a legible page with it, it doesnt count.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
