Definitely looks genuine although it is the first one I have seen with a 18k nib. Mine has a 14k nib as have all the others I have come across. I use mine a lot as the pen with 8 cartridges will see me through most trips. The cartridge holder is prone to slight corrosion but if you feel this is an issue I am sure MB will replace it.

It writes well, except I'm still getting a hesitation of flow on my first letter, I believe this is from a decade of no use.

It draws a thick consistent line, I think the nib must be extra large.

I am doing a bit of research on ink as the Mont Blanc ink I have tends to bleed to much especially on the cheaper paper at work.

Thanks everyone, i didn’t expect so many helpful, and genuinely interested responses.

I have been cleaning the pen up and it is working well, it was having issues feeding in the beginning, because of dried ink.

I have been cleaning it with room temperature water and so far so good, the only part i cant get clean is the cartridge holder end that engages to pierce the cartridge, i assume these are plated gold and can corroded? i am unwilling to try scraping the ink off incase it is corroded beneath.

My other question would be if anyone knows if it is possible to purchase a refillable canister to use in this pen? i really enjoy that aspect on my parker pen and would like the option to switch between refilling and disposables?

You can't purchase a 'refillable canister' if you mean a converter for a 147. It wouldn't fit inside the top of the pen.

Your best bet is to buy FP syringes from somewhere like Goulets and refill cartridges. Remember that you won't be able to put an unsealed one in the sleigh holder as a spare though

looks real, just like mine !

relax and enjoy writing with it ! :lticaptd:

I use a bulb syringe as pictured to clean my 147. It works very well !

The collar of the syringe forms a good seal around the back of the 147 and cleans the nib and feed in a few seconds

Where did you source that type of bulb syringe from?

That's a shame, i have a parker that can take cartridges or a converter.

There are several types of Mb pen that do take cartridges or converters, but the 147 is designed specifically as a cartridge only pen.

I never thought I would go for a cartridge pen but after a messy incident on an aircraft I decided it would have to be either a ball pen or the MB Traveller. The 147 was with me on a recent long distance flight and it caused no problems. It's an excellent fountain pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
