Considering that I got it dirt cheap, is it at least a decent one ? or a fake ?

Those are great everyday workhorse pens. I think you'll find that it easily stands up to pens costing many many times more (and then some) than it usually does - last I knew these can usually be had for $20-$40. Congratulations on your catch.

Thanks, as this happens to be my first Cross. :) (though I own a franklin-covey, manufactured by cross!)

While, I am not a newbie to fountain pens, I definitely am one in case of cross. I researched a bit and saw that it takes proprietary carts and converters, which is kinda ok, as I got the converter thrown in here.. B)

And I don't have ANY idea what nib I'll be receiving.

What I intend to know more is about the section of this workhorse.

Does it use single channel or multi-channel Feed?

How is the stock nib generally (Dry or wet)?

Should I expect any line variation, or are they very stiff nibs?

And most importantly, if I swap the nib with a similar sized semi-flex one, would the feed be able to keep up ? (Intend to use waterman inks, which are pretty wet!)

Also, Cross inks look like repacked pelikan 4001.

Yes, but have YOU looked?.....

In the FPN pen reviews, that is.

There are two reviews on the Cross Solo, one confirming (as I already seemed to remember), that the nib was made by Pilot/Namiki. They also do say some about the performance.

The rest of your question about the feed etc are highly specialistic, and even if I did have the pen myself I could not tell you.

So have a look there.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
