Narrow Ruled Loose Leaf For Fountain Pens?

Hi all,

I'm looking for some white narrow-ruled (6.35mm or smaller) looseleaf paper for my fountain pens, or a spiral ring notebook with perforated sheets. Sheets should be 5x8.5 inches or 8.5x11 inches (or thereabouts). I'm not a big fan of quad-ruled paper, although I'm not opposed to 5mm ruling. Also, I'm not looking to print my own paper - I just want some sheets that are ready to go! Anyone have any ideas? The closest I've found are Staples' Sustainable Earth notepads, but they only carry narrow-rule in canary. I have some Japanese notebooks (Maruman & Kokuyo) and Apica notebooks with 6mm lines, but none of them have perforated sheets.

I like the Staples 8.5" x 11" lined paper. It's college ruled, so slightly wider spaces (7mm?). SKU 849398

Edited to Add: I hope the formulation hadn't changed. I'd been buying this since early high school/late junior high a good 10 years ago, stock piled 2 or 3 years ago when they were on sale. At least Staples as a 100% guarantee. :)

Maruman Smooth-To-Write paper should work for you if you can handle international paper sizes. They have have ruling from 5mm-8mm and the paper is of excellent quality.

edit: not sure why the link doesn't work...if you copy and paste into your address bar it should work.

Maruman and Kokuyo have loose leaf paper that fits your requirements I believe.

From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

Do a Google Search. Here is what I found:

But, I have no idea of the paper quality and if it is FP friendly.

I would guess the sugarcane paper is.

thanks for doing the legwork, but i have googled up the wazoo - and even ordered a couple of packs in the past. but, as you say, it's often difficult to tell if something will be fountain pen friendly... and so far all efforts have failed! i was hoping you all could save me from some errant paper-buying :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
