HisNibs.com update -- Black Top Porcelain and a Walk Among the Tombstones
September 16th, 2014

Greetings all,

New this week is the Jinhao Black Top Porcelain
http://hisnibs.com/black_top.htm series of fountain pens. Now you can take
your art with you.

As the film version of Lawrence Block's 'A Walk Among the Tombstones' is
released on September 19th, I thought I'd revisit the mint Agatha Christie
fountain pen that I sold for him last year.

Speaking of revisiting, every year or so I like to re-post the little PBS
profile of His Nibs http://youtu.be/vzs1RY0_Ukk, as new enthusiasts join
this mailing list. As I have even less hair now, it's probably time to
revisit PBS!

The first of the Celluloid Flecks http://hisnibs.com/celluloid_flecks.htm
fountain pens from Crocodile introduced last week are being delivered now,
and already the first review is in.

Lai Yee's inexpensive poly 6 or 10-pen pen rolls
http://hisnibs.com/pen_rolls.htm in Blue have been a big hit, which join the
original black and the more recent purple material.

As this newsletter goes out to a mailing list of thousands of customers,
please understand if there's a delay in answering your email queries or
orders after one of these is sent. We will respond in order received and as
soon as possible!

Jinhao Black Top Porcelain

http://hisnibs.com/JinhaoBlackCapPorcelainGroupCapped_small.jpg

The Jinhao Black Top Porcelain series features a somewhat slimmer version of
the long-popular Porcelain series pens, measuring 5-3/8" capped, 6-3/8"
posted and 4-3/4" with cap held aside (click the link to see other design
differences). So, if you've loved your original Porcelain but wanted a
similar pen that's a bit less hefty, this is the one for you.

In profile, the Black Top Porcelain The cap is reminiscent in shape to that
used on the Pelikan Sovereign series, and overall the shape and feel of the
pen evokes images of that great German pen (as well as the Duke 116 Series
and Carbon Fibre series).

The four 'paintings' are each quite spectacular, especially as one hangs in
the Louvre.

A Walk Among the Tombstones

As Lawrence Block's film 'A Walk Among the Tombstones' is being released on
September 19th (starring Liam Neeson), I thought it appropriate to show the
beautiful, mint Montblanc Agatha Christie fountain pen that passed through
my hands last year when Larry asked me to find an appreciative home for it.
This was one of the originals and presented to him as a gift by Montblanc.
You can read more of the story (and see more photographs) here
http://hisnibs.com/agatha_christie.htm, and see a clip of the man himself on
the Craig Ferguson show this past week here http://youtu.be/Cjvi-lVky5M.

Crocodile Celluloid Flecks

http://hisnibs.com/CrocodileCelluloidDragonPairConverter_small.jpg

"Dear Norman, the Green Marble Crocodile pen arrived today, & it far exceeds
my expectations. How they can produce a pen of this quality and beauty for
the price is beyond me. One hesitation was the crocodile clip that I thought
might be gaudy & cheap looking, but in reality it adds a certain elegance to
the pen that I really like. Most important is the writing experience, and
the ink flow and line are just right. The Private Reserve American blue is a
great color, and looks to becoming one of my favorite daily inks. As always,
Lai Yee has done great work on the pen wrap, and that is also most
appreciated. Thanks also for the personal note. I know it takes your time,
but I always feel really good after receiving that...You have a great site,
wonderful products, and if I can be useful in promoting your business, it
would pleasure me greatly to do so. You give personal service that far
surpasses anything I have seen other places, and you certainly deserve to be
supported for that. Warm regards,"

6 or 10 pen poly pen rolls -- now in Blue

http://hisnibs.com/PenRollBluePoly6_small.jpg

Made from 100% polyester felt, the basic 6-pen roll is a great way to
protect your pens from scratches while
they're jostled around during travel. Each slot is stitched so that barrels
never make contact, and are large enough to easily fit oversized pens. Laid
flat, the roll measures approximately 9" in width and 10" high, with each
slot being about 5" deep.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
