This Pen Is So Purple... Barney Was Embarrassed

Here is a new one I just made. I think I got a little carried away with the purple. The pen is 5 5/8" long capped and just over 5" uncapped. The cap doesn't post. The body has triple start 13mm threads. Pen comes with a fine JOWO nib. Questions and comments always appreciated.

Come see some of my handmade pens!!!

A friend of mine would go absolutely crazy for that -- she has decreed that all purple things should belong to her (except the dinosaur...).

Sorry for being a newbie, but when you say the cap doesn't post, what do you mean?

Nice pen btw :)

"Posting" means putting the cap on the back of the pen when you write with it. Some people always post, some people never do (for various reasons). Me, I'm a poster for the most part; there's a couple of pens that I *can't* post the cap on because the back of the barrel comes to a taper and the cap doesn't sit squarely on it, and one of my Noodler's Konrads seems to have some sort of obstruction in the cap, which kinda makes me nuts (especially when I have no trouble with any of the other three).

Non-posters often claim that you can damage the barrel and leave scratches, but I don't want to have to hold the cap while I'm writing. And since I don't have a desk to keep pens and paper and such, that means I'm writing while sitting at whatever chair (or, when I do my morning journal, I'm still in bed). So I figure, most of the vintage pens *already* have scratches on them. And not losing the cap and running the risk of having the pen dry out trumps a few scratches. I'm not a C-worder collector -- I USE my pens.

Plus, some pens (particularly small pens such as ringtops) are too small to hold (even with my smallish hands) when writing *unless* they're posted. And for me that means the gold-filled filigree overlay on the Morrison ring top will get some scratches. And (once I get the sac replaced on it) so will the sterling silver overlay Morrison ringtop.

Lovely. By the way, I bought recently some Ahabs from you in ebay. Thank you, my topkapi amber is great.

Hanging on my bedpost! I wore it with a purple shirt when I turned 50. And, yes, it's been hanging there a while.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
