Visconti Under Glass - A Lucky Find

I found these online, but the shipping from Australia was ridiculous. But a friend, who lives a few miles from the store shipped them to me for a fraction of what the store would have charged.

Great find! I just recently found a blue and bordeaux in the glass bottles with the box. These certainly are getting harder to find at anything approaching a reasonable price!

Congrats.

Are these inks any good? I see my local penstore stocking them but I was never really interested. A writing sample perhaps?

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

You got those on ebay didn't you. I missed the closing of the Turquoise, and you beat me on the Bordeaux.

With the exception of the Turquoise the colors leave me a little bored, but I've found the behaviour of these inks to be exceptional.

If you want to see some samples, you should check the index of Ink Reviews: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/160612-index-of-ink-reviews/page-2?do=findComment&comment=1743432

I actually got them at the San Francisco pen show. They were just sitting on a table blending in to their surroundings. After missing a bunch on ebay and the classifieds here, I practically snatched them off the table.

I agree with you about the colors. I mostly just like the turquoise. I really just got the other two because I like the bottles so much and will reuse them once the original ink is gone.

That's a fun coincidence. Just this past week the first Visconti Glass Bottles in several months showed up on ebay, and it was those 2 colors.

I like their Blue the best. Glass is great because glass is glass... but I also love these old boxes because I find the current plastic veils not even mediocre.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
