well - following my purchase of my first parker button filler last week locally and my research on how to re-sac it and remove the button and pressure bar, I wanted another...

 

so I took a stab at this one with a last minute bid. It is a little more ornate with the gold bands and the chased imprint.

 

I wanted it, but have little clue on the value of these things... NIB is missing, but I figure should not be so hard to come by and I think I have a really good nib from the other pen.

 

Obviously condition is everything, but did I overpay? Seems like the other bidder was a hard core pen buyer, bidding on a tremendous amount of pens.

Considering the condition (even without a nib), I think you paid a good price.

 

The color is nice and dark, no cracks, the chasing and knurling is crisp and detailed, and the bands seem to have little or no brassing.

 

It is BCHR rather than bakelite. I hate how eBay sellers describe every old plastic item as "bakelite."

 

Check Five Star Pens and John Mottishaw (no affiliations, just a satisfied customer). I just purchased, from Five Star Pens, a nib for a Parker Challenger that I bought at a flea market that was missing its nib.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
