Swapping Barrels On A M1000

I have a black Pelikan M1000 and wanted to swap it to a green striped M1000.

I have sourced a barrel from somewhere - can someone recommend a good pen technician who can make the swap for me?

Also, are there any potential issues to be aware of? Barrels not uniformly sized, looser tolerances, reliability issues with removing the piston or section, etc?

TIA!

You have just the green binde or the complete body without the filler unit? if it is the latter, it is a very simple job and even I can do the swap for you, gratis.

The seller said just the barrel - not sure what this entails. I have sent them an email asking about it.

I would take it to mean the complete barrel with the binde on it but without the filler mounted.

Hi,

I just tool a M1000 apart and changed the binde, (outer cover)

It was never intended to be replaced, and is major surgery.

The section is cast together with the underlying body and is not removable.

I think you might want to consider replacing the entire body.

I think you can get the whole body assembly with cap for ~$350.00 in all the current made colors.

Finding just the center body, in the color you want might be difficult.

Another option is to see if you can find a trade, Keep the nib and swap the rest.

There is this outfit that makes custom bindes for Pelikans. I don't know if he can do a M1000

Good luck

Sorry for the slow reply, Mark but thanks for that useful info. I have gotten a body of some sort from Martini Auctions, which is waiting for me at home when i return. I am going to see if that is any use or not. If not, I may sell the M1000 and splurge on the Raden, which has been calling my name every since i saw it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
