Bought one last Thursday and because of the Dallas pen show in two weeks, I'll probably buy one or more that weekend.

Two weeks.....cause I get paid biweekly. HAHA!

+1 for this right now.

But once I get all my very cheap pens swapped out for slightly more sturdy inexpensive pens, I will limit myself and save up for the handful of expensive pens on my wanted list.

My budget is much tighter than it used to be so I'm not really buying right now. I bought a TWSBI Micarta v2 a couple months ago but only because they were almost gone and I didn't want to miss the chance (I've never seen one on the secondary market) - and I'm glad I got it; great pen!

Anyway...I have 3 or 4 pens I'll likely have repaired/restored before I buy new again and it would have to be something a bit special I saved for. Hmm...a Chartres Blue 3776 with a music nib maybe? No rush...poverty is a great aid to patience :P

My buying is probably going to taper off now that I've figured out what I like and figured out what I need. With my last two purchases I'm pretty much set with pens that are a good fit for me.

On the other hand, I may buy a couple odd nibs for my interchangeable pens, and I'm still looking for the right journal and legal pad.

I've cut down my spending on pens signifnicantly as I've decided that I've spent far too much. I think I'm going to limit myself to one MB Writer's Edition per year.

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

Same here, I'm seconds away from ordering my 2nd Montblanc (what a pain to save my money for a long time).

Anywhere from today to next month, or more.

Whenever I feel like it, and see something that I want, and decide to buy it.

Obviously, the more expensive item, takes more time to amass the required capital.

Yeah, that's a nice way to think. :-P

The purchase of fountain pens I find to be an art, first you must find a pen, then decide whether you like it or not, then it is imperative that you....

Haha, just kidding, whenever possible, I ALWAYS have something I would like to explore (filling systems, nib grades, flexiness)

But then again thats why I love this forum!~

Depends on the pen, but usually every month as long as it is 200 or lower.

WTB Sheaffer Balance oversized with a flex nib, semi flex, broad, or medium in carmine red or grey striated.

Wtb Sheaffer Pfm in black or blue with a medium or broad nib.

I've been on the verge of ordering a Franklin-Christoph for a few weeks now, it's only a matter of time before I pull that trigger I'm sure. Unless I go deep and order the Nakaya I really want. Either way, guessing I'll have another one within a month at least. I went years with just a Pelikan M215 though, like 4 years probably, and am just getting back into pens again and putting together a small selection to play with...currently sitting at 5.

Turns out the answer was two days. It was neither of the pens mentioned tough...instead I ordered a Sailor 1911 standard today...go figure.

I still have several from the last ones that I haven't inked up yet. (Pilot Metro in Fine, loot from the SF Pen Show, Pilot Tank, Kullock P51, Pelikan 140, random stuff after the Pen Show, Parker Arrows, Parker Vacumatic Azure...),And I have plenty - I rarely think, "Gosh, I wish I had a..." any more. Maybe a Pelikan M600. Someday. Or a Pilot Custom 74. Maybe.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
