What Is Your Daily Use Ink

Recommended Posts

I don't have one daily ink but my EDC will almost always contain Diamine Asa Blue, Eau de Nil, Misty Blue or Twilight and I would be happy with any one of the last 3 as an only ink.

I also always have a pen inked with Noodlers Zhivago in case I want something waterproof or something which will pass as black - but it does not get used very much.

My edc kit includes two Pilot VP. One inked with Pilot blue-black; one with Sheaffer Skrip red. I'm also beginning to carry a pocket size Pilot; which for now will be inked with Pilot Blue-Black.

My 'sets in rotation' get inked with inks in rotation as well; most are various blues; a black; Diamine Syrah, Pelikan Brillian Brown, Lamy green, Parker Quink permanent blue-black, Waterman purple. Where I haven't mentioned brands they're mostly Waterman or Aurora.

My EDC ink is usually Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher. It's a nice deep blue with permanence. Behaves well in every pen I have from a VP fine to a Visconti Rembrandt medium, to a Falcon SF. I'm starting to incorporate Noodler's Upper Ganges Blue in my daily carry pens. It is lighter blue and very permanent. So far, it behaves well in all my pens, too.

Favorite pen/ink pairings: Edison Brockton w/EF 14K gold nib and Noodler's 54th Massachusetts; Visconti Pinanfarina w/EF chromium conical nib and Noodler's El Lawrence; Sheaffer Legacy w/18k extra fine inlaid nib and Noodler's Black; Sheaffer PFM III fine w/14k inlaid nib and Noodler's Black; Lamy 2000 EF with Noodler's 54th Massachusetts; Franklin Christoph 65 Stablis w/steel Masuyama fine cursive italic and DeAtramentis Document Blue; Pilot Decimo w/18k fine nib and Pilot Blue Black; Franklin Christoph 45 w/steel Masuyama fine cursive italic and Noodler's Zhivago; Edison Brockton EF and Noodler's El Lawrence; TWSBI ECO EF with Noodler's Bad Green Gator.

I have two desk pens, one loaded with Private Reserve Arabian Rose, the other with Private Reserve Midnight Blues (Fast Dry) which is a blue-black.

My three carry pens are loaded as follows:

Parker 51, fine nib, Visconti Blue - this is a very rich saturated pure blue

Sheaffer Compact Cartridge, Pendleton Point CI nib, Caran d'Ache Storm - a dark violet

Sheaffer Snorkel, Pendleton Point CI nib, Noodler's Sequoia - a dark almost grey green

I don't use much black, but MontBlanc Noir is my choice when I do.

The two pen I always carry are:

TWSBI Vac700 1.1mm with J. Hebrin Rouge Hematite (version 3)

and

TWSBI Mini 1.1mm with Noodler's Kung Te Cheng slightly diluted for a nice flow.

Daily ink for work purposes: Akkerman Nr. 10.

Other pens vary by week, but Diamines Eau de Nil & Saddle Brown, and MB Burgundy are regular picks.

In my law office I use two pens, an Mb 144 with Diamine Oxblood and a Faber-Castell Ambition with Kon-peki.

Oxblood is nice. It is on my list of near future inks. How do you like the Faber-Castell?

I love playing with all of my inks, byt my EDC always includes either Diamine Graphite or Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite. I like the greenish cast of Graphite, it is well behaved in all my pens (always loaded in a gray Esterbrook J) and is easy on the eyes yet readable when used to write lots of pages. I tend to use Tanzanite when the weather turns cooler.

Pilot Vanishing Point and Wahl-Eversharp 713 always with Pelikan 4001 Roral Blue. Love the color and it's very well behaved. General writing and note taking.

Waterman Kultur with Montblanc Permanent Blue. Nice blue and bullet proof. Good for return address on envelopes and for writing checks.

Monteverde Invincia Stylus with 1.5mm stub and with Noodler's X-Feather. Nice deep black ink that's bullet proof and use it for adressing envelopes and practicing Italic calligraphy.

It's....oh wait, I have about 10 different black inks; most of the are in use/rotation, so that more or less rules me out - too bad.

Only one ink? That woould probably be Pelikan blue/black - well behaved, though a bit dry, can be use for business without anybody getting scared (or laughing). If I wanted something that would work in all my pens it would be Waterman Serenity Blue - most well behaved ink I have ever used.

Currently I have Noodler's Air Corps Blue Black in my 51; writes nicely & looks professional, with just a hint of green for interest. (Plus, the ink matches the barrel!)

Lately, my daily use ink has been PR Tanzanite. Before that, it was Noodler's Navy.

Really, my daily ink is whatever ink sample I happen to be testing at the time. In between, I go back to one of those two bottles listed above.

The only ink I always have inked is Sailor Sei-Boku Blue-Black in a dedicated yellow Pilot VP.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
