Lahlahlaw Tomahawked a M for me; it's a dream to write with. He also stubbed another M and stubbed and softened an EF. All are amazing. I wholeheartedly recommend his work.

The 580 rose gold is on my Christmas list; I'm sure it will be Artified. :)

I can't see it well, but if it's a broad nib it will have a 'B' on the side near the base of the nib. The reason for the differences in physical nib width relative to writing line width is because the Nemosine nib is really a stub. Xfountainpens lists them as "calligraphy" nibs, I have two of them and they are true stubs. The Tomahawk is a cursive-italic with a flatter writing surface, so it writes pretty much the same width line as the physical width. The Nemosine's stub has rounded edges, so the part that actually touches paper will not be the true nib with side-to-side. At least that's what I suppose to be the case...

Is a broad about .8mm? It seems TWSBI does not offer a 1.1mm with the USA 580. :gaah:

Do you have pictures of a writing sample anywhere?

It's not much - I was at work - but it's a taste. I'll do a better example tonight if you'd like me to.

Thanks, that's perfect. Looks like it has line variation similar to the .6mm Nemosine. I should be fine with a broad Tomahawk. Italics are a funny thing - medium nibs are typically plenty wide enough for me or else my loops touch, yet with an italic I can write fine with a 1.1mm.

The TWSBI 1.1 is a whole lot broader than a Lamy 1.1. Here is an un-Artified comparison.

This group is also from 2011 - before I knew of Art.

If I win the $350 million tonight, I'll have my personal jet fly it over to Art to "fix" it. I'm curious to see how the stock nib compares to the Tomahawk, especially for springiness. I wonder if it'd work for other pens, too.

You can always buy a second nib... $20 and test it out.

Whoah. This baby had a lot of gas in the tank, but moments after I finished the Second Impressions review, it stopped writing. 0_0

I couldn't put it down!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Don't be surprised if you find one in your mailbox like I did today. :P She is definitely an enabler, but somehow I love it. It's almost like an excuse. My 580 USA arrived and I have to say I was not super impressed. It's great and all, but compared to your loaner, the writing experience was not even in the same ballpark. Not to worry, I had planned on having it "fixed," anyway.

For some reason, the feel of the two pens are different as well. Yours is more comfortable and I'm not sure why because they're the same! I am thinking that because of the Tomahawk mod, it writes with much less effort than I am used to even with fountain pens. Perhaps I subconsciously hold it even lighter than I do my own pens.

Nope. Once Art performed magic on my Vac 700, it was WONDERFUL and it may be my favorite. I can't remember because they have been out on loan almost since they returned.

Oh, I thought I had seen that you didn't care for it because it was too big or heavy. Must have been someone else. For me, the pen looks neat but I don't think I'd like the step on the section. It looks pretty big.

After Amber loaned me her Saphire 540 1.1 stub (thanks to the magic of lalalaw), I think I might have to ask for a TWSBI for Christmas!!! I loved the loaner I was given to use and even though I have had Art do two nib mods for me (I LOVE THEM!!), I think Amber's wrote even more smoothly than mine did.

I'm afraid I'll have to send Art a couple more pens for "upgrading" the nibs!! Pure Magic!!!!

You realize you people are total enablers!!!

So, what's your point?

(Mine is a flexible F.)

The Jekyll in me loves being enabled, but the Hyde in me (or my wallet) screams hatred and irresponsibility. Or was it the Hyde in me loves it versus the Jek. . . oh, who cares. :D

What did Art do for you and on what pens? I'm wondering if a Tomahawk mod would work nicely on a variety of nibs. I'll have to experiment with the Noodler's "ease my flex" mod on a cheap Chinese nail to see what happens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
