Fake. Dealer is in China selling exclusively Chinese pens. Even though leaned up on a Lamy box the nib and label side of pen is hidden. It even says the brand is LA Executive.

Doesn't appear that he/she lays claim to Lamy, simply calls it LA Pen. I guess I wonder too why anyone would fake a $20 pen. Nor does he/she try to obfuscate their location. I don't think they are tryng to fool anyone, just copying what may be a good design. Do note that the section is in German. I speak fair German but could not see the words clearly. I don't think that even the casual LAmy buyer would be fooled by these pens.

Look at all of the middle 20th century copies of the Vacumatic from Italy. That was an expensive pen in the day.

Look on the box the pen is leaning on it says "Lamy"

Jerry, you are right on that. I missed it, my apologies. I had just searched the page for "Lamy." I'm still going with fake.

Thanks for all the replies. Now after having done some cogitatin' on the matter, I'm going to say that the pen is NOT a fake and here's why. The vendor has auctioned off several such pens on eBay and probably will continue to do so. Certainly if the pens were fake or the photo misleading, purchasers would have complained to eBay and further auctioning of such would have been disallowed. Ergo, real!

As of this writing the price has been bid up to $8USD. Is anyone willing to bid sufficiently to win the pen and report back to us? This would be proof-positive.

It says it takes international standard size ink cartridge. It also weighs more than a Lamy, and a different length...I doubt its a Lamy.

Just because the pen is leaning on a Lamy box does not imply the pen is a Lamy.

The body length, less cap, of the Lamy Safari is 130mm. The apparent discrepency in weight could possible be due to a weight measured with or without the cartridge. I cannot account for the statement that it takes an international cartridge other than to say that the statement might have been made in error.

Frankly it states that it is a LA Executive brand pen and they are trying to con you into thinking it is Lamy by putting the Lamy box in the ad. IF it was a Lamy they would clearly state that because the Lamy has an MSRP in the $35 dollar range and they would be more likely to get that. It's is a fake Chinese Lamy look a like worth $2.5 tops and they are hoping for more with people thinking that it might be a Lamy.

It's their way to avoid the listing from being pulled because they'll be like "We never said it was a Lamy...", and a lot of times eBay accepts that excuse despite any "implied" imagery in the pictures.

There is no such "LA Executive" pen and so if it is a Lamy I would suspect that dubbing it "LA Executive" is a way of avoiding the wrath of the boys from Heidelberg.

By the way if you scroll-down the listing, there are additional photo's that do reveal what is positively a Lamy Safari. Me thinks that the only way to prove or disprove the authenticity is to obtain the actual pen. Again my bet is that it is "for-real".

Is it a "fake"? Not really. It states that, :Brand:LA It does not say that it is a Lamy.

But misleading - yes.

I fear that it's likely to be a fake.

I have my suspicions that 'Share Enjoy' is yet another guise for 'comeon1988' and 'combinedshipping'. The leaflet I got from 'ShareEnjoy' was an updated version of one I got from both the other sellers advertising a website of fake pens (one that is no longer in existence) the year before. Apart from a reference to a different website, it was identical.

The thing that does surprise me is that this seller is now being bold enough to sell stuff that is probably fake directly on E-Bay, a step I have not seen them take before.

Not good.

Regards,

Richard.

Indeed it is no real fake as it nowhere claims to be a Lamy, apart from sitting close to a box

K3eax can think it is real if he wants but the most telling is the absence of the word LAMY on the tail of the barrel.

The Safari has LAMY in relief. This is obviously completely absent.

So it is no Lamy fake but a lookalike.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
